Keith and I bursted through the ER doors. Keith with a wife beater on with some sweats and me wearing Keith's sweater and my jeans. I walked to the counter where a lady sat shuffling through some papers.
"Hello.. umm.. I got a call from my sister saying there was a fire.. my grandmother and nephew was inside the house" I said as my voice cracked. I felt Keith put his hands on my shoulders and rubbed them softly to try and calm my nerves.
"When we hear anything a doctor will come out and speak to you" said the lady
"That bitch isn't going to help y'all very much" I turned to see Kayla sitting in the waiting room with Luke holding her. I haven't seen Kayla cry like this before. Out of the two of us, she was the tough cookie. The tear streaks showed on her face and the runny mascara said it all. Her eyes were red and puffy. Luke wiped a falling tear from his eyes and waved at us. See this made me cry. I hid my face into Keith's chest and sobbed. He led me to a seat, sat down and placed me onto his lap rocking me back and forth. "Don't worry baby" he said as his voice cracked.
"Where my momma at!?" Me and Kayla's head shot up looked at each other with a shocked expression. We knew exactly who it was and what was in store this night.
"This woman took care of y'all for how long and you two grown ass women couldn't take care of her? Ungrateful" spat my mother
"Well we wouldnt have to take "care" of her if you and "father" did yall jobs as "parents and took care of us . NOT SHIP US OFF TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY" Kayla yelled at at my parents. Not only was she upset about Lucas but now she was heated. After going back & forth for a couple mins Luke got up and held Kayla back.
"Who the fuck is this nigga" yelled dad to Luke
"Dont talk to him like that. This is Luke and he--"
"YO WHERE MY SON AT?"
Fuck. I stood up from Keith's lap and pulled Luke & Keith back to prepare them for the madness that was about to occur. Around the corner a face came that Ive seen but didn't want to see. Especially not now.

"Yazz man? Whatchu doin here" Luke said as a slight side smile came onto his face.
Yazz stayed quiet and took in who was in the room.
