Chapter 7:
(Emily's POV)
I sat in my office at my desk twiddling my pen lost in my thoughts. I had been sat at my desk all morning staring out at at the other desks I looked out at, normally I would have to check on them as their supervisor but today my mind was elsewhere. I couldn't concentrate on anything with my thoughts all over the place.
He called me.
Harrison, the guy from my dreams who I have weird feelings for is real and called me. How can this even happen? He's alive and not just in my head, I know that's not normal.
"Hey, you okay?" I heard Lila's voice come from the doorway. She was leaning on the frame with her arms crossed looking a little unsure as her soft voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I placed the pen down looking up at her giving her a half hearted smile.
"Yeah i'll be fine. What's up?" I gulped, trying to conduct myself away from Harrison and this whole situation.
"I know that face. What has Andrew done now?" She quizzed as she made her way into my office. She sat down on the chair in front of my desk, crossing her legs with her posture relaxing.
"Why do you assume it was Andrew?" I added sitting up a little.
"Maybe because I don't like the guy." She said like she has been making clear since the day she met him.
"You don't like anyone." I say making her laugh.
"I like you." She commented. She has been my best friend since we both started working here. She started before me but she works in a different department. We met at the photocopier years ago and then started going on lunch together and then it went off from there. I could trust her with everything and I knew that she cared for me but if I told her what has been going on, she might have a different reaction.
"Don't you have a job to do?" I asked side tracking fiddling with some papers on my desk. As much as I wanted to open up to her, I would sound crazy and it's not like she can relate and understand the situation.
"Oh yeah I forgot I'm talking to you." She commented sarcastically rolling her eyes placing her hands dramatically on the arms of her chairs.
"How come you're here anyway? Is it lunch already?" I recalled looking at the clock. God the time has flown by but not that much to say it was lunch.
"No I just got bored." She smirked looking around the office in interest.
"Lila." I muttered. A part of me wishes I was like her, she was so outgoing and if she wanted something she got it, no one was telling her no, and if they did they wouldn't be saying no for long. Not like me, I just go for what is easier for everyone else. Lila has told me off multiple times but I guess people don't change, well at least I don't.
"Well it looked like you were bored too." She responded in her defence making me laugh a little.
"Okay fair point." I said. I looked back down at my pen fiddling with it once again as I thought of a way of trying to explain my situation to her without her not believing me or freaking out
"So Tim rang me." Lila buttered out
"That's nice for Tim." I joked.
"Ha ha." She sarcastically laughed.
"What did he want?" I asked.
"He's planning a get away only to Bunbury for the weekend and I suggested you and Andy come along and well Tim was up for it." She explained. There were so many things wrong with what she just said. For starters she knows that Andrew hates being called Andy. Second, she knows a trip with Tim and Andrew will just be a guy fest where they'll leave us in the middle of nowhere to find a bar and talk about the Rugby. And last but not least, I've not had a good history with going on a holiday planned by her and her beloved.
"I don't know." I uttered looking away from her gaze, trying to think of a way of getting out of it.
"Come on it'll be fun." She begged, leaning forward on her chair leaning her arms on the desk like she was about to start negotiating.
"Do you remember last time?" I mentioned.
"Okay so it wasn't my fault the car's engine broke in the middle of Wungong." She laughed as she spoke.
"I'll have to check with Andrew but it should be okay." I sighed not in the mood for a road trip, I had other things on my plate, and this trip wouldn't help me in the slightest.
"Already did that so you don't try before you try and use an excuse to get out of it." She noted making me slightly irritated inside.
"And he said?" I asked.
"The same as you." She spoke not sounding pleased with the response, being a little quieter about it as if she were disappointed. She turned away not wanting to see the smug look on my face.
"Great." I piped.
"What's up with you? You're acting weird." She quizzed looking back at me.
"I'm not acting weird." I responded putting the pen back down trying to act normal.
"There's something going on then." She observed.
"Okay so there's this small thing." I mentioned, not even knowing how she managed to get me to confess.
"It's probably a big thing." She said, more like she was making a mental note to herself.
"So I met this guy." I made clear, pointing it on.
"Go on." She gasped leaning forward out of interest. Typical Lila and her love of gossip.
"In my dreams." I stated.
"Oh ... okay ..." She replied. Her eyebrows furrowed as she trailed on trying to work out where I was going with this.
"That's what I was like originally, and then he rang me." I spoke.
"He rang you?" She asked turning her head a little in confusion. It was a little funny watching her confused, it was a rare sight but I could see she was taking it well.
"Yep." I nodded.
"You're kidding right?" She asked leaning back in shock, my laughing at her reaction not helping the situation.
"Nope." I replied finding her reaction funny
"Is it lunch yet?" She looked around for a clock as she spoke randomly.
"No why?" I asked wondering where she was going with this seeing the smirk form on her lips.
"Because I need a drink." She said standing up smiling.
