Chapter 13:
(Emily's POV)
I smiled as I wrote my report, distracted by Harrison and his arrival. He had text me once we had woke yesterday telling me he was starting his journey here and would be here this afternoon. Last night's dream was just me making plans with him. I wanted to meet him at the airport but he was insistent that he wanted to surprise me. I looked over at the other desks as I saw them hard at work. My phone buzzed and I saw it was Lila reading
'Want to look anymore heartbroken'
I looked up and saw her at my office door leaning on the glass frame, her heels crossed over each other.
"You're taking the break-up well" She commented, walking in and shutting the door behind herself.
"Should I be?" I questioned, leaning back in my chair. I didn't even think of Andrew once since that day he left the apartment. There was no sadness of losing the relationship, there wasn't any emotional break-up movies I watched, I just wanted to see the man of my dreams.
"Ouch, make sure you don't say that to anyone else, they'll think you're heartless." She said as she sat in my chair in front of my desk, crossing her legs.
"I don't mean to be, it's just -"
"Weird, is this all about that guy?" She interrupted. I blushed trying to pretend to carry on with my work.
"I knew it. That's why you're so cold with me. You do know breaking up with Andrew for this guy is crazy right." She commented. I looked up and saw that she was playing with her nails, seeming distracted.
"How is it? I wasn't feeling my relationship anymore and I didn't think it was fair to lead him on like that." I asked, explaining my truth.
"Em, you were with the guy for so long, what do you think happens? You stay in the honeymoon stage forever and ever?" She ridiculed laughing at her own comment.
"No but I wanted something more. Anyway miss judgy, why are you in my office?" I asked getting back to work knowing this time was distracting enough and this work needed doing before lunch.
"Well that's the thing, I'm upgrading to Mrs judgy." She stated. I looked up and looked directly to her hands and saw the gleaming bright diamond popping on her hand. It was stunning. She moved her hand closer and practically pulled her over the desk.
"You're engaged? Oh my god why didn't you lead with that? Why didn't you tell me sooner?" I exclaimed running around the desk to hug her tight. This is so exciting. She's marrying her perfect match, she deserved this so much. I couldn't stop smiling out of excitement for her.
"I knew I would need an escape from the office and I wanted to show you in person." She answered smiling, touching her ring with her other hand to adjust it to her view.
"Lila I'm so happy for you," I spoke, hugging her one last time before I walked back around the desk.
"And hey if this dreamy guy doesn't match your expectations, you'll be a maid of honor so someone will want to shag you." She stated.
"Hey!" I said laughing.
"You never know." She commented, admiring her hand.
"There's more to this than him being just another guy. He's different." I explained, stopping my tying and getting lost in my thoughts of him as I tried to describe him. He was different, obviously by the way we met but the connection was deeper, he even said it himself.
"They always are. And then you meet his family, his friends and bam he's the same guy who you last dated but with darker hair and a tanned complexion." She explained.
"I thought you didn't like Andrew," I said briefly. It all sounded biased on what she was saying. I know Tim is friends with Andrew but surely she wouldn't follow in Andrew's opinion.
"What does he have to do with this?" She asked appalled by what I insinuated.
"Seem's like you're on his side," I replied.
"I'm the last person on his side. But being the main cheerleader for you, I just need to know whether this is your decision or the break-ups." She said leaning forward.
"It's all me." I smiled.
"So when is lover boy landing?" She spoke standing up turning roundabout to leave before she stopped.
"I don't know, he wouldn't tell me. He said he wanted to surprise me." I responded.
"It's a day full of surprises for you today because look who's just come in." She said before leaving, holding the door for Andrew to come in.
"Andrew? What are you doing here?" I asked as he walked in and Lila walked away.
"Can we talk?" He asked closing the door behind himself.
"I'm working, can it wait until I finish or lunch?" I looked up and outside my office and nobody seemed interested with the continuous people coming in and out of my office which was a bonus, because if Margaret saw she would be writing it straight into her little red book.
"Not really no. I thought this time things could be different." He said, locking my door.
"What are you doing?" I asked feeling uncomfortable. Why was he locking my door?
"I thought this life would change you. But you went back into the dream." He carried on, ignoring my question.
"How do you know about my dreams?" I asked. I didn't tell him anything about dreams or about Harrison. Unless Lila told Tim who told him. But the way he was acting was freaking me out.
"I know everything Em. I know about Harrison and your dreams and your plans." He answered standing in front of my desk. I got up from my chair and took a step back feeling intimidated.
"Who told you? Was it Lila?" I asked feeling paranoid. It would make sense due to the way Emily was talking to me just.
"No one told me. It was me who started it in the first place." He replied.
