Ky's P.O.V:
A mixture of emotions swirled inside me as my group moved deeper into the forest. I was shocked from the news about Milo; angry at my little brother for doing such a stupid thing; worried for his well-being and petrified at what lurked in the darkness. The arrival of Elaina and Amara had somewhat lifted my spirits because of safety in numbers, but now I had to look after Elaina as she had no lux navitas to use against the Shadows.
Along with Damon I had brought Caelia, Lora, Felix and Remus; four people I trusted with my life. Caelia was the mother-figure in our group, and often had to break up the fights Felix and Remus got into while Lora watched worriedly on the side-lines.
"Ky, do you actually have any idea where you are going or are you just guessing?" Felix asked from behind me, sounding amused. I rolled my eyes and veered left, choosing to ignore his comment. Truth be told, I was just guessing. Everyone knew that the Shadows were situated deep within the forest, but no one knew the exact location due to the size of the forest! I felt Elaina tug on my hand and I turned to look at her, my eyes narrowing when I saw her pale complexion.
"Over there." She mumbled, lifting her hand to point to her right. Following her finger, my throat went dry when I spotted five pairs of red eyes glowing within the canopy of the leaves. I stopped in my tracks, causing the others to walk into my back.
"Hey, what is wro--" Felix's shout was cut short when Lora's hand slapped over his mouth, having noticed the danger too.
"What do we do?" Amara quietly asked, stepping forward. "Fight or flee?"
The unblinking eyes stared at us, watching our every move.
"We cannot afford to draw anymore attention to ourselves." I muttered, releasing Elaina's hand in case I had to attack. "I think we should dispose of them in case they get reinforcements."
I heard the others grunt in agreement and I settled into my fighting stance when Damon placed his hand on my shoulder.
"I will stay here and fight them." He suddenly stated. "We cannot waste anymore time in retrieving the others."
My jaw was almost dislocated as my mouth fell open in shock.
"You cannot fight them on your own!" I argued. Out of the blue, Felix stepped forward and hit his chest his the palm of his hand.
"I shall stay with Damon and fight the Shadows." He said courageously. "You guys go on ahead and find the others!"
The Shadows suddenly growled and advanced without warning, leaving me to make a painful decision within a few seconds.
Could I really leave them behind to face the Shadows by themselves?

Elaina's P.O.V:
When Ky first introduced me to his friends at his birthday party, I had to say that I was taken aback. Felix and Remus were constantly at each other's throats that I had no idea how they became friends in the first place. Caelia spent most of her time wrenching the two of each other and giving them a stern talking to, reminding me a lot of Syrena. Lora was the angel of the group, always trying to calm things down even if she never succeeded. I'm surprised that she didn't have her own halo.
