Ky's P.O.V
It felt like years passed while I was lying here, my arms wrapped around the most precious thing to me. Every time I breathed in, her scent would wash over me, smelling of honey and soothing me to my very core. She felt so tiny and fragile in my arms, like a china doll. It made we want to protect her and never leave her side. My thoughts turned to the idea of meeting my vita socium and my eyebrows furrowed.
"There is no way it could be Elaina." I muttered sadly. "She does not even have her own lux navitas."
I should not haved kissed her in the first place. Now all I am going to do is bring pain to both of us when I end up meeting my vita socium. It is only a matter of time. That is, if I even make it back alive from this mission. I shook my head angrily.
"Do not even think like that! You are going to survive and you are going to bring Lena back home safely!" I said quietly, not wanting to wake Elaina up. There was a soft knock at the door.
"It is time, Ky." My Dad called. I sighed and retracted my arms from around Elaina. She murmured something and rolled away from me. I made a move to get up when she muttered something which I almost missed.
"Ky..."
I froze and my gaze snapped back to her, holding my breath.
"...Ky."
My heart swelled and, very gently, I placed a small kiss on her forehead.
"I am not going to break my promise." I whispered against her warm skin. Slowly, I stood up and turned away from my love, my eyes scrunching my to stop any tears leaking out.
The sound of the door clicking shut seemed to echo in the room, sounding my depature and maybe even my death.
Elaina's P.O.V
My eyes suddenly snapped open and the ceiling of Amara's room loomed over-head. I lazily stretched my arms and yawned, turning my head to see Ky.
He wasn't there.
I froze, staring blankly at his vacated spot. Everything seemed deathly silent as I brushed my hand over the mattress, fighting back tears. I didn't even get to say goodbye. Something tickled my feet and I glanced at the foot of the mattress to see Frost snuffling my bare feet. He immediately raised his head and stared at me, his head cocking to one side as if he was trying to puzzle me out.
The door creaked open and Amara poked her head round, his glossy blonde hair falling over one shoulder.
"Oh, you are awake." She said, opening the door wider. On one hand she carried a plate of cookies and in the other two glasses of something that looked like blackcurrant. As she walked in, she kicked the door shut with one foot and placed everything in front of me. Frost came over to investigate but I pushed him away, not wanting him to eat my food.
The cookies were freshly made as they were still warm, filling the room with a delicious smell. Curious, I picked up one of the glasses and peered into the purple liquid.
"What is this?" I asked, giving it a sniff. It smelt almost spicy and was hot to touch. Amara picked up her own glass and had a tiny sip.
"It is a shiau fruit. The skin is poisonousness and can be fatal to us, but surprisingly the juice is perfectly harmless."
I stopped mid sip and raised my eyebrow. Amara ignored the look I gave her and downed half of her glass in one gulp. I swallowed my mouthful and shivered as the warm liquid seeped down my throat, warming my insides. It was wonderfully spicy just like the smell, maybe even too spicy...
"Oh God that's hot!" I gasped, slamming the glass down and desperately trying to fan my tongue. Amara giggled and finished the rest of the drink off without turning red or gasping from the spiciness.
"It takes a while to get used to it." She explained. "I practically live off this, though it it terribly fattening."
I glanced at her flat stomach and said nothing, trying to ignore the burning sensation on my tongue. To take my mind of it I picked up on of the cookies and nibbled the edge of it. There was a distinct taste of cinnamon and I quickly crammed the remnants of it into my mouth, rolling my eyes in ecstasy.
"These are so nice!" I groaned, picking up another one. "I didn't know you had cinnamon here."
"We may live on a different planet, but we do have the same tress growing in our rainforest as you do."
"Rainforest? I thought it was a jungle."
"Definitely not a jungle. I would show you but you are not allowed out in it unless you are over 18 or you have special permission from the Dux." Amara informed me.
I frowned, brushing crumbs off my trousers. "So that's how Ky was able to come to my world?"
"Yes, but he asked Dad and since Dad is the deputy Dux his permission works as well."
A small made it way onto my face as I thought about how Ky became my first real friend in such a long time, but the smile instantly slipped when I remembered where he was right now.
"How long has it been since Ky left?" I asked, my appetite disappearing.
"About an hour and a half ago. He was long gone before you woke up." Amara said, munching on a cookie herself. I clutched the duvet with both hands as she said this.
He could've woken me up so that I could've say goodbye. I thought angrily. Amara noticed my expression and patted my hand softly.
"He would have rather let you sleep instead of waking you up. I think he thought that it would have easy this way, for both of you."
I sighed and nodded, realising my grip on the duvet. "I guess you're right..."
Amara surprised me by suddenly gathering up the glasses and plate before standing up.
"Can you help me with the washing up? It might help keep you mind of things." She said, wisely avoiding using Ky's name. I nodded and stood up, happy to feel useful and completely agreeing with Amara's opinion.
Frost barked at the sudden movement and I picked him up, cuddling him to my chest.
"I'll let you play with Ilaria. I bet she's feeling lonely now." I said, thinking about how her and Lena where inseparable. Amara smiled at this and lead the way out, the distinct smell of spices still lingering in the air.
