Chapter 19: Kyle
After getting an annoying call from Charlotte at 7 in the morning. I tossed and turned, hoping to fall into a deep slumber. But no matter what, my eyes could never seem to close for a long period of time.
Mentally sighing in anger at Charlotte I decided to get ready for the day. This was not how I planned to spend my Saturday.
Unfortunately adding onto my bad list there was no familiar smell of eggs and bacon. Every Saturday morning Amelia cooks eggs and bacon for breakfast. There has never been a time when we have skipped this.
I brushed my hair and let it down before changing into some sweatpants with a shirt.
I poked my head out of the doorway still unsure of what is going on. Amelia and Amy was at the dining table and another person. Stepping forward to try and get another look I instantly landed on something very unstable. Making me fall on my but.
The conversation has gone mute but I was only concentrating on the aching pain on my backside. I gave one last evil death glare at the barbie doll that I had tripped on before standing up slowly. Wincing at the pain. I turned around and smiled nervously before full on glaring at Amy. She smiled at me before waving innocently.
"Amelia, Amy; hope you had a great sleep filled with wonderful dreams" I smiled at Amy. More like nightmares.
My gaze shifted to the unknown guest. "Da-Dad?" I said it more like a question.
He gave me a nervous smile.
"I mean, hi dad. I thought you were on a business trip?" I covered up realising what I had recently said.
He scratched his head. "Well yeah. I have other matters to deal with at the moment.."
"Have?" I asked questioning his choice of words.
"Sweetheart sit down, we need to talk to you about something" Amelia spoke nodding her head to the chair opposite her and dad.
I started to get worried as I slowly made my way to the table sitting down rather cautiously. I quickly glanced at Amy to see that she was occupied playing with her barbie dolls.
"Are you getting a divorce?" I asked.
"No!" They said at the same time.
"Do you have cancer?"
"No!" They repeated.
"Are you pregnant?" I asked Amelia.
Amelia chocked, her eyes widening. "Gosh no"
"Are we moving?"
I was expecting a no but the room went silent as realisation hit me. We're moving. My eyes widened with fear at this looking at dad for reassurance. My friends, school, my job; all gone.
Dad weighed his options. "Well-"
My mouth dropped open. "Are you serious? You know I have a life here, right?"
Dad nodded. "We know. And we have considered that-"
I interrupted him. "Why do we have to move? We have a great life here. I mean look everywhere. We have a house, school, and a full life of career ahead of us" I sputtered out trying to reason myself.
Amelia nodded. "Just let your dad finish. There's more to it"
I stared at dad intensely.
"I was hired for a job in America. Good money and a good job. But it's permanent. Meaning I'm moving there"
"Oh" I said a little bit sad. Why a little bit? Because he's never home anyway. He'd visit often so it would be the same. "Well, we'll all miss you" I said.
Amelia fidgeted a bit. "There's more"
Dad rubbed the back of his neck. "You see I was going to take you or Josh with me. But you guys are already in school and I can't just take that away from you so I'm taking-"
Realisation hit me. If he's not taking Josh or me, he must be taking..
"Amy?" I finished off his sentence not believing this for a single second.
Dad nodded giving me a half smile. I laughed finally getting what he was saying.
"Oh my god. You guys actually scared the hell out of me-" I started walking to the kitchen and getting a glass of water before making my way back to my seat.
"I thought that you guys were actually serious. I mean that's hilarious. Amy and dad both moving to America-" I slowed down when dad gave me a nervous smile.
"I'm not joking. I'm taking Amy with me to America" he said sternly.
I sputtered out my water earning a dissaproving look from Amelia.
"Skylar!" Amelia scolded me.
I ignored Amelia and stared at dad. "You can't be serious. You barely come home. Always away on business trips. And now you come home and want to take Amy away from us!?" I spoke anger evident.
Amy had looked up at us finally interested in the conversation.
"Don't act like I haven't been here" he replied.
I scoffed. "What about that time when mom and Kyle died-" I started mentioning my brothers name. Dad and Amelia both looked alarmed at this. This was the first time that we had spoken of Kyle since he died.
"-You weren't even here for us. You just went away on business trips not even caring about us. Josh and I had to be in charge of taking care of Amy and not to mention ourselves as well"
He sighed. "I was confused and hurt. I didn't know what to do. You can't blame that on me"
I shook my head disgusted at him. "You were confused? What about us? We were just kids. We would've been more confused than you"
He was about to reply but I cut in.
"Who was the one that gave that aeroplane ticket to mom?" I spoke with fury having no control over it. All of these emotions were hid in me, never having the chance to come out. I learnt to kept the words to myself. Knowing that it would hurt dad in some way.
"You were the one that gave those tickets to mom" My eyes welled up but I held it in. "You did. If you hadn't given those tickets to mom she wouldn't have died. This is all of your fault!"
I hadn't realised that I was crying until I felt water running down my face.
"What is going on here?" Josh asked his appearance showing.
He was in his shorts and a wet singlet. Just coming home from soccer training.
I looked at dad's hurt face one more time before standing up and leaving.
"Sky-" Dad started after me standing up.
I turned around not giving him a chance to speak. "Don't call me that. You have never been a father to me and you never will. Quit wasting your time" I spat at him before storming out passing a confused Josh on the way out.
