It's time.
It's time I finally come back.
You moved to the other side of your small NYC apartment, throwing your clothes into your suitcase. You had had a plan when you first arrived in New York and your plan was always supposed to end with you returning back to Ikebukuro. You were born there after all and leaving so much behind felt too hard for you. Ikebukuro was your home and its citizens your neighbors. But now you can say that your perspective back then was warped and blinded.
Too much has happened. But it's over now. It's over.
"(Name)!" Came a loud knocking on your door. "Open up already! I have to pee!!"
You signed and hung your head low. Sam was coming by to help you get to the airport but sometimes she could be a little....loud.
She knocked harder. "Do you WANT piss on your front door!"
"I'm coming, Jesus Christ!"
You rushed over to the unlock the door.
"Thanks bestie!" she grinned.
She gave you a quick hug before rushing over to the bathroom and slamming the door shut. You returned back to your checklist and went ahead to continue packing back up.
"Do you really have to go? I thought you hated it there," Sam said from the other side of the door.
You hesitated for a moment. "I...I don't hate it. I just needed to get away for a while and go experience new things. Now I'm ready to go back. Besides, New York never really felt like home to me."
The toilet flushed and Sam came out of the bathroom after washing her hands. She plopped down onto your stripped bed, hands behind her head.
"You just never talk about it much, you know? When we first met I was so excited to talk to you about manga and anime and you just weren't into it."
"Not everyone from Japan is obsessed with that, you know."
You folded your shirt into your suitcase and noticed Sam blushing a bit.
"Okay, that came out wrong but what I mean is," she sat up. "Is that you only gave me just little details about your life there. You never told me if you had a boyfriend and I only heard you talking to your mom once over the phone and I'm positive she knew English. So what gives? Don't tell me all Japanese people are cold like you," she teased.
You gave a heavy sigh. "Sam, I just wanted to disconnect myself from everyone back home. I wanted my life here and my life in Ikebukuro to remain separate. Is that so hard to understand? I just wanted a fresh start."
"I guess I understand. I just hope things will be okay for you when you get back."
"...Me too."
There was a slight pause in the room before Sam jumped up on your bed and locked her arms around you, causing you to fall forward.
"Now come on! Let's have some fun before you leave!"
She proceeded to tickle your sides. Sam was always good at making you smile, whether it was forcibly or not."Okay! Okay!" you laughed. "Just don't mess up my suitcase!"

Sam was driving you to the airport and pulled up to your airlines gate. Sam got you a cart to help you load up your stuff and after that, everything went by fast. You got your ticket and checked in your bags and now you had your backpack by your side along with your favorite teddy bear Bucky that your mom had given to you at birth. You and Sam were sitting at Dunkin Donuts, drinking iced coffee.
