Outside, the sun was beginning to doze off, signaling that night fall was approaching. You had stayed after school as it was your turn to clean up the classroom. You cleaned up paper balls, eraser bits, and dusted the chalk erasers clean. You had chalk dust all over your blue uniform, the same blue uniform that you wore with a skirt that was a little too short and despite how much your mother and principal chastised you, you still wore it this way anyway.
It's just a phase, they say. But to you it was just about staying cool in this hot weather.
"God I hate cleaning," you sighed to yourself.
The rest of your helpers had gone home after rushing through their work and now you were left alone. You guessed that's what happens when you take your time.
"Izaya! We should start a club!"
Your ears perked up. It sounded like the voice of one of your upper classmates. You began to wonder why they were staying so late.
"Aw come on, Izaya. Please!"
Man he could sound whiny sometimes, you thought.
You continued with your duty of placing chairs on top of the desk so that you could finish today's work with mopping.
Izaya. That name.
The name that belonged to the mischievous boy with a knife. The same boy who caused so much distruction and havock by instigating a blonde with anger issues. You tried to stay clear of them both but there was more than one occasion where you ran into Izaya. He'd try to be coy with you, ask you details of any of your friends and then run off. To you he was some nosy gossiper looking for attention. You had to admit he was attractive for a high school boy but you weren't crazy for him like your other delusional friends.
As you were finishing up fixing the chairs, you decided to take a small break and sit on top of one of the desks by the window. You watched as the sun bore streaks of red and orange, mingling together in with the sunset. In the far distance you could see some classmates walking with each other to somewhere in Ikebukuro. You would have gotten further lost in the view but you were snapped back to reality at the sound of the other classroom door opening and closing.
"Look just don't get too excited alright? It's just some club and nothing more."
You followed the sound of the cool voice only to see Izaya Orihara himself talking to Shinra Kishitani. Shinra was a little nerdy but sweet, but also sometimes a little annoying. He'd help you occasionally with your science homework in the schools library.
"Oh, hey (Name)!" he smiled when he saw you. "Your turn to clean up I see?"
"Yeah," you nodded, small smile on your lips. You tried to ignore the look on Izaya's face. He had a small grin and his eyes were narrowed on you. "But I'm almost done. Just need to mop up."
"Would you like some help?" Izaya asked in that same cool toned voice of his.
"Um, it won't be necessary. I'm almost done anyways."
"Nonsense! We'd love to!"
Izaya moved over to the closet to pull out two extra mops for him and Shinra. Shinra smiled at you and gave you a look like he was hoping you weren't freaked out by Izaya's presence. A lot of people were nervous around the guy but you just figured he was some emo kid with issues like everyone else in this school.
"Well, thanks for the help. I hope this isn't interfering with any of your schedules."
"Nah, we've got plenty of free time!" Shinra said. "I just needed to....." He stopped suddenly, looking at the ground with wide eyes. "Oh no! Celty!" he gasped. "I'm sorry but my beautiful Celty is waiting for me outside. I'll have to help you out some other time, (Name). Sorry!"
He made a dash for it before you could even say anything.
