tw:mentions of bone marrow biopsy/aspiration and small mentions of needles.

Leigh's POV

After talking again with the doctor we decided on a day for the bone marrow biopsy. Today was that day.

I had spent my whole career watching people go through this. Now I was the patient. I couldn't tell whether I was angry at the pain I'd have to endure or because I'd been missing days of making money. Especially because on this day I'd be wasting a day of money making at the place I made money.

6:08am.

Pretending I was in some kind of spy movie, I quietly crept out of my house, despite living alone, and into my car.

Even though no one had any clue about my supposed illness I felt like I might make it too obvious if I werent careful.

Driving to the familiar building I spent most of my days in, I parked my car. It was early enough for nobody important to be in the building.

I'd get this over with and go home. I even made Arista promise she'd process all of my files instead of people at the front desk doing so.

I couldn't take the risk of Perrie or Jade being at a computer when my results came into view. Really, no one knew of my miserableness.

Well, I mean, except for one person.

Speaking of the devil.

"Hey, Leigh!"

I turned around and instantly my eyes rolled to the back of my head.

"Jesy, what are you doing here? Visiting hours aren't open until 10 o'clock."

"I was kind of worried about you. You hadn't been to work in a few days."

"How would you know?" I say harshly.

"Well you are my brother's primary nurse." She brushes her hair out of her face.

"So you just come every morning to see if I'm here?"

Jesy's eyes dart to the ground, her fingers brushing through her hair.

"Well, yeah. You were kind of a mess when I first laid my eyes on you."

My tone softens when I realize I made the girl feel insecure, "That's sweet."

She shrugs and kicks the pebbles underneath the place she stood.

"Would you like to come in? I don't get a serial killer vibe from you so I guess it couldn't hurt."

Wow, good way to make things even more awkward.

"I mean it's a hospital, not your house. So I'd probably go in anyway." She teases.

"Well, yeah. But I was saying because I wasn't going to make you sit in the waiting room. You could actually be tr-"

"Leigh-Anne, I was joking." She places her hands on my shoulder just like the day before.

I turn away and use my identification card to enter the back of the building. Leading the way, Jesy follows behind me.

"Can you get in trouble for bringing me in here?" She asks.

"Doubt it. It's not like I'm letting you in on any government secrets."

"Pfft. What do you know Pinnock?"

I laugh at her squinted facial expression.

"I know that you're highly annoying."
