His Birthday

As your time in Chicago had gone down to only a little more than a week left, you were sad that you would have to leave Nick and Maddie soon. You continued to do fun things with Maddie and Kylie but also continued to text Nick.

During a conversation on a phone call, you asked him, "Hey what are you doing Friday or Saturday Night?"

"This weekend is packed for me. I'm going out with people from work after we film on Friday and then on Saturday, I'm going out with some friends" he replied.

"Oh wow! You are quite the popular guy. Any reason why you are so busy? Are you celebrating someone's birthday or something?" you questioned.

"Actually yeah," he said. "Mine."

"No way! Why didn't you tell me?! Happy almost Birthday!!"

"January 21st" you thought to yourself. "I'll have to put that in my phone for Nick's birthday."

"Haha thanks. Sorry I didn't tell you, it just never fit into conversation."

"Are you free on Sunday? I want to celebrate your birthday with you!" you said.

"No, on Sunday I'm...wait actually my family is throwing a party for me, since its my actual birthday. Would you want to come? I could introduce you to everyone."

"Ok sure! As long as that's alright with everyone. I don't want to intrude."

"Are you kidding me?" he exclaimed. "You? Intrude? Never! My family is easy about that stuff. Plus, it's my birthday so I can invite whoever I want."

"Alright, sounds fun!"

You talked for a little longer about details and decided that Nick would pick you up at one on Sunday and bring you to the party. It was getting late and the girls were telling you go to bed so you said bye to Nick and hung up.

You told Maddie and Kylie about your plans for Sunday and the three of you squealed.

It was only Thursday, and since Nick was busy Friday and Saturday, you wouldn't see him until Sunday.  That gave you plenty of time to find an outfit and present for him.

You were so excited for Sunday to come that Friday and Saturday went by a lot faster than you were thinking they would. It was already Sunday morning and you were getting ready. For an outfit, you chose a sweater with roses on it, jeans, and Uggs. It was cute, but also comfortable.

You had gotten two presents for Nick, one for him to open in front of the family along with all his other gifts, and one you wanted him to open with just you, even though you didn't know if you'd get him to yourself at all since he was the star of the party.

You were excited to meet Nick's family, but at the same time you were a little nervous. You weren't always the best at being social. He told you it wouldn't be a large crowd, but you couldn't help but feel anxious.

You said bye to Maddie and Kylie and headed out the door when you heard Nick honk his horn.

You put the present in the back seat (the other was in your coat pocket), and got in the front seat. As you said hi, Nick leaned over and gave you a quick kiss.

He looked you over and smiled, "You look cute, as always."

You giggled and said, "Thanks! You look as handsome as ever, birthday boy!"

He drove off with one hand on the wheel and the other holding yours, while he told you about some of the people in his family. He was right when he said there wouldn't be that many people, just his immediate family.

He drove up to his parents house and got out, while you grabbed the present out of the car. The two of you walked up to the door hand in hand. His mom opened the door before you even reached the top step.

She pulled you into a hug and exclaimed, "Oh hi! You must be Y/n! It's so great to meet you honey! I've heard so much about you!"

"Thanks!" you replied. "It's great to meet you too!" You had only just met Sandra, but she seemed so sweet.

As you walked into the house and through the entryway, you stopped and said hi to everyone. After Nick's mom you introduced yourself to his dad, Alan, his brother, Vincent, his sister, Jillian, and her husband and son. Everyone was so happy to meet you. Your nerves went away when you realized that there was nothing to be anxious about. Everyone was so welcoming, and there weren't many people there in the first place.

After you had been at the party for a while, Nick went off to watch basketball in the family room with the guys, while you hung out with the ladies in the kitchen. You were getting to know them through small talk. They were all so nice and seemed to really like you.

Sandra and Jillian were putting the final touches on the meal, so you excused yourself to the bathroom to wash your hands. You weren't gone more than five minutes, but as you walked out to head back into the kitchen, Nick came up to you with a worried look.

"Y/n, are you alright?" he asked.

You looked at him, confused, and said, "Why wouldn't I be?"

"Oh I don't know, I came into the kitchen to look for you but you weren't there. I just wanted to make sure you were ok."

You smiled and said, "Yeah, I'm great. Thank you though, you're so sweet. I'm having a great time with your mom and sister. They are so awesome! There aren't many people I've met that are nicer than them."

"I knew you would get along...you're just like them" Nick said with a smile.

You giggled and said, "Thanks."

"Hey, do you have to go right home after the party?" he asked.

"No. Why?" you responded.

"Well, maybe if you want, you could come over to my apartment? We could watch a movie or something."

"That sounds great!"

"Awesome" he said as he smiled and gave you a quick kiss. "I haven't had the chance to really see you at all this afternoon. You're too busy being popular."

All of a sudden, Nick's dad walked into the hallway and said, "Quit the hanky-panky and get in here for dinner."

Nick's cheeks turned bright red, as he laughed a little, and said, "Yes sir."

During dinner, Nick's family asked more about you. They were all so welcoming and kind!

After dinner, it was time for Nick to open presents from his family. He got socks and money from his parents, a watch from his sister and brother-in-law, and basketball tickets from his brother. Finally, he opened your present. It was a movie night gift basket filled with candy, popcorn, and movies.

"Oh this is such a good idea! Thanks Y/n! We should use it soon!"

You returned his smile.

After presents, everyone was sitting in the family room together. Nick was playing with his nephew. You couldn't help but notice how good he was with kids. You wondered if someday he would play with your kids.

Next, it was time for cake, ice cream, and singing Happy Birthday. Nick was turning 30, so it was a pretty big deal, and everyone got super silly and into the song.

As the party started to end, everyone left Nick's parents house. After you and Nick grabbed your things and said bye to everyone, the two of you drove to his house.
