He blindfolded me so I couldn't see where we were going, telling me it's all part of the surprise. As we drove along to our mysterious destination, I couldn't stop thinking about where we could possibly be taking me. Eventually what felt like an hour but was actually 20 minutes, the car stopped and he said,"We're here babe." Just by the sound of his voice I could tell he was smiling.
He opened the passenger door for me and I became aware of everything around me. The sound of the cars flying past and the sounds of people talking and laughing as they passed and the soft noise of litter being picked up and thrown around by the wind on the pavement. He took my hand and we started walking. I was kinda scared that I would walk into something so I kept putting my arm out to feel if anything is in my way but he eased my fear by saying, "Don't worry babe, I got you."
I heard the chime of the tiny Bell above the door we walked through and the aroma invaded my airways like the wind ruffles the feathers of a bird. I smelt the scent of chocolate and vanilla and maybe something like bubblegum, I wasn't to sure. But finally the blindfold fell away and even though I already had an idea of where we were I was still surprised at the sight before me. He had brought me to the small frozen yogurt shop where we had our first date.
"Surprise", he whispered from his position behind me. I turned around so fast that I almost crashed into him but luckily he had taken a step back, we shared a kiss and I smiled just thinking about the first time we came here.
He stood in the line to get our frozen yogurt while I waited at a table for him. I didn't even have to tell him what flavour I wanted because he already knew. I always have chocolate and he always gets vanilla. In my opinion, vanilla is so boring but I won't complain at least I'm getting my fro-yo. I thought we would sit down and eat but he had other plans, so once he had paid he said," Let's go babe. "
"Where to my love?"
"It's a surprise."
"You're just full of surprises today bae."
We started walking down the street as we ate our frozen yogurt in silence. I assumed that if he had to speak he would give away the whole surprise, however it was not an awkward silence it was in a way comfortable. I was a bit preoccupied with my fro-yo to notice that he had stopped walking. When I eventually looked up, I saw him standing outside a small play park. I walked over to him and asked,"Yes bae?", he just smiled at me.
Once we had finished our delightful treat, we started acting like kids. Running around playing tag, going down the slide and spinning around on the round-about. All my thoughts from the past few hours disappeared and it felt like I had no worries or responsibilities. The light of the sun began to fade and we were exhausted, so we decided to lay down in the grass for a bit before we walk back to his car.
Laying next to him, with the day slowly turning into night, I wanted to stay in this moment forever. If only I had the ability to stop time. He entwined our hands and I was the one to break the peaceful silence.
"Thank you my love, I really needed this," I said as I turned to face him.
"Anytime babe," be said with a smile as he leaned in to kiss me.
We reminisced some of our favourite childhood memories all the way back to the car and it continued throughout the drive back to my apartment. I gave him a kiss goodnight and as soon as I walked in through my front door, I collapsed into the couch. I was completely exhausted, this day has been one huge rollercoaster. I wasn't feeling very hungry so I took a shower and in the split second that my head touched my pillow I was out like a light. Dreaming about my lover.
