Jade told me about the night before when he called the police, "I just told them that someone had broken in and they asked if they should come over and look for fingerprints and all that but I said no because I knew you were tired and didn't really want the police to get involved and fill out forms and things."
"Thanks for that," I said timid smile remembering the events from last night and my nightmare."Well don't thank me just yet."
"Why not?"
"Since the police are not going to investigate the break in we are gonna take this into our own hands." Jade said with a proud smile.
I was a little hesitant at first because we can't just go around taking the law into our own hands but my curiosity got the best of me because I still wanted to know who it was.
"So, what do we do first?" I asked.
"First we make a list of all the people you had a disagreement with or enemies you're made or people that would want to hurt you."
-----------------------------------------
The list was somewhat short, consisting mostly of people I had falling outs with over the past 3 years. There were two girls who used to look down on me and got pissed when I finally stood up to them. I guess they had motive as some kind of revenge plan. There were also a few friends that drifted away after a disagreement of some sort but I doubt they would break in for the fun of it.Just when I thought I mentioned everyone a thought struck me, "I'm not sure about this but there was once this guy who had a crush on me. He was really brave to come right out and admit it but I rejected him. I think it took a big toll on him because whenever I saw him he gave me a dirty look and pretty much resented me."
"So he could be looking to get your attention or something? Show that he hasn't given up on you?"
"Yeah I guess so, I don't even know what happened to him after high school."
"Clearly he's been keeping tabs on you. Let's go find out what this guy has been up to then." Jade said getting up. I put some money on the table to pay for our food and we left the diner. We had taken my car so naturally I would be the one to drive... right? I walked over to the drivers side of the car but Jade stopped me, "I'm driving. Don't worry, you can trust me with your precious baby."
"Just be gentle with her okay," I said throwing him the keys. After a few minutes I asked, "Do you even know where we're going?"
"I have a friend." was all he said. I looked out the window and watched the scenery pass by in a blur and I thought back to that part of high school when that guy approached me.
What was his name again?Sam.
I have to admit he was pretty cute if I remember correctly. He had wavy brown hair that was grown out to cover his ears. His eyes were hazel around the pupil and spread out into a light green around the edges. He wasn't built like a jock but he wasn't a stereotypical skinny nerd either. He had that subtle beauty about him that nobody really saw unless you looked hard enough.
When he admitted he had a crush on me I didn't know what to do. I didn't like him like that. I didn't mean to hurt him but I had to be honest, I was crushing on someone else. Obviously that didn't last long as it was my last year of high school. After that day, whenever I passed him in the hallways I felt bad and he always gave me a dirty look. Like he resented ever having a crush on me. He deserved better.
I shook my head trying to clear the thought of him from my mind. My mind then drifted to Him. I hadn't heard from Him in a couple days although, he called me to let me know that his business trip has been extended to another month or so. Surprisingly, I don't miss him that much. With everything that's been going on I haven't had time to myself to miss Him. I came to my senses when I heard Jade say, "We're here."
I looked past him out the driver's side window to see we had stopped in a pretty run down neighborhood. The house we were walking towards had a garden with grass that reached up to your knees and the steps leading up to the porch creaked under my weight. Jade reached out and knocked on the door in a pattern. First three times then twice, twice again and then another three times.
