“Welcome home” I said, trying to sound calm, although my heart was beating 2km per minute. Looking at me confused, he scrunched his nose, like he always did when he was trying to figure something out. After staring at me for a good minute, he finally spoke, “Zee?” he gasped, finally leaning in for a hug. He had gotten taller, so my little face was buried in his big chest. He smelt like axe mixed with a bit of vanilla. After releasing me, my nerves kicked in again, causing me to let out a small giggle. “I didn't know you were here! I didn’t see you downstairs!” he said as he realised me, placed his arm around my shoulders. “Look at you! You're a grown up!” he said, examining me from top to bottom. “That's what I said! She looks…different” Ashton mentioned, joining into the conversation. “You're not looking to bad yourself” I finally managed to say, setting my nervousness aside. There he was, standing in front of me, the same old Calum Hood I grew up with. “Well, I’m going to go back down, people must think I fell in the toilet or something” Ashton laughed giving me a quick wink, leaving me and Calum alone. After a brief moment of silence, Calum finally spoke “So, what were you doing up here? Why weren’t you down stairs?” he asked curiously. “I came to use the washroom, then, I saw your room...” I said quietly, turning towards the door. “I haven’t been in here since you left” I said, finally taking a step in. “Yeah, same, well, obviously” he added, turning on the lights. Walking towards his bed, he sat on the edge. “Remember all the days we would spend in here, doing stupid shit” he said, bringing up the past, as if he never left, sitting down beside him I took a deep breathe out, sighing loudly “Yeah”. Turning his body towards mine, he grew a grin on his face. “And all those days I use to tickle you” he said, moving his hands to my hips, using his fingers to tickle me. “Cal” I said squirming, trying not to laugh. After a quick struggle and holding in my laughter I stood up where he wouldn’t be able to touch me, “Stop” mumbled, turning my back to him. “You can't just come back, and pretend like you never left” I added, saying the truth. It wasn't fair. I spent the past two years waiting for him, and he never showed. “Zee, it's not like that” he said, trying to defend him. “It not like what? Michael and Luke came back all the time to visit! But you? You just disappeared” I yelled frustrated, finally turning my body towards him again. “It's not fair! You could have visited! You could have called! You just pretend like I didn’t exist!” I argued, holding back my tears, not caring who could hear me. “Zara! I wanted to come back! I did! I just couldn’t do it to myself” he said, standing up. “You think it was easy for me? Being out there? While you were half way across the world?” he said, walking towards me. “I was jealous; you got to stay here, and graduate with everyone, and be a teenager” he mumbled, getting louder with each word. Calum Hood, jealous of me? He had gotten the chance to live anyone’s dream, he shouldn’t be complaining “You stop talking to me, I felt so invisible” I managed to say, finally letting loose, letting a tear roll down my cheek. Walking back towards the bed, I sat down “I needed you”. “I’m sorry, I just, I didn’t know what to do” Calum sighed, sitting back beside me. “I missed you” I leaded my head onto his shoulder, embracing the moment. “I missed you too” he said quietly, placing his hand on my lap. Right then and there, I felt as if I had my best friend back.
