Chapter Four: The Border.

Alvera awoke, rather suddenly, to a sharp pain in between her thighs, and the peculiar feeling of drying blood on her fingers.

What was happening? Where..?

Ah.

Right.

A tear slowly worked its way down her face, dripping off her pointed chin and continuing its track down her chest, and even though she knew it didn't make a difference, she felt slightly cleaner, more herself, where its salty water had touched.

It was then that someone picked her legs up and began to drag her, not bothering with avoiding rocks and branches, which raked across her skin, damaging it even more than it already had been.

She felt much more alert than she had when she had previously awoken, and when she tried, she could move her limbs without inhibition. Also, her pain was much more evident, especially on her breasts and between her thighs. The effects of the berries must have faded whilst she was 'asleep'. She tried to move her mind away from what had also been happening then.

Just then a sharp rocked jutted into her scalp, and she couldn't hold back her cries of pain. Her legs were dropped as soon as the noise was heard.

"Awake, then? Good." Hans said, his voice rough and scratching, underlined with pain. Lifting the top of her body, she saw that he had bound the wound she gave him with a strip of her underclothes. "I was hoping you'd be conscious for this."

"For what? Where have you taken me?" She asked tremulously.

"The Border."

Only two words. Only three little movements of Hans' mouth, but still her whole body shut down and

She.

Couldn't.

Breathe.

"No!" She gasped, tears working their way out of her eyes and onto her face, as her body convulsed. "Please, please, Hans! I won't tell anyone! I'll-I'll just go back to my hut, I'll never go to another festival, please! Just...Please!"

But any hope of mercy disappeared at the sight of Hans' cruel smile as he watched her crying.

"You see, I really had considered just killing you, but then I thought, 'why? When I could see her beg for her life'. Then, there really wasn't even a choice."

Her tears stopped. Her body ceased it's shaking, and her chin went up. She still had a chance. If she could fight him off, she could escape. She didn't have to go there.

Beyond the Border.

Where they lived. Where they hunted. Where nothing human survived.

She couldn't go there.

She wouldn't.

And if Hans thought he had broken her, that there was no fight left.

He was about to be very bloody surprised.

And then Alvera stood up, her body surprising standing firm beneath her, and she raised her eyes to his.

"I won't let you."

******Author's Note******

Hi!

I really liked writing this chapter (Sorry, it's short), because now I get to introduce you to Alvera's strong side. In previous chapters, she's been really disoriented and everything, so I never really got to show this fire in her, so I am very much looking forward to the next chapter.

You might be thinking,

'What? Haven't shown her fiery side?? SHE RIPPED HANS EYEBALL OUT! I'D CALL THAT PRETTY F**KING FIERY?'

Trust me, she gets (worse) BETTER! She's been kinda repressed these last couple of years (Her past will also be explained MUAHAHAHA), and so she's been kinda meek. But with these new circumstances, she's gonna go all Godfuckingzilla.

I know I'm a little bit late today, I'm really sorry! Some stuff came up with a few family friends, and....Well. It's been really hectic. So, sorry for that!

I really hope that those 23 views liked this book! It's my first one, kinda, and so I know it's really bad, but just hang in there! It'll get better, probably!

Anyway, yeah. The whole border thing will be explained in greater detail soon. I'm thinking of doing a chapter just for that, or maybe I'll just work it into the main events, but answers will be provided!

Thank you SO much for reading, hope you have a wonderful life!
