When I awoke the next morning, the air in the cabin felt much different. I rolled over and was met with a face full of Kade's glimmering black hair, to which I reached up and ran my fingers through. My dreams last night consisted of much more than just my fall from Heaven - it consisted of my time with Kade, just Kade.
He wiggled around the bed until he was lying on his back, his head turned towards me. "You're up early."
"So are you."
"Then again," he added, "Neither of us truly need to sleep."
I ran a hand down the length of his chest, remembering how he felt pressed against me in my dreams. And to think that it had actually happened kind of scared me, but not as much as I thought it would. I guess because my dreams were my own secret, and I had nothing to be ashamed of.
"What are you thinking about?" He asked me.
If my face had the ability to flush like it used to, then I'm sure it would bed cherry red. "I dreamt a lot last night."
"Did you remember anything new?" He asked hopefully.
I refrained from pursing my lips. "I did."
"What was it?"
I let my head rest against my pillow as I focused on his locks of hair. "Nothing too important," I lied.
"Deryn, anything you remember is crucial."
I couldn't believe that I didn't have the guts to tell him what I had dreamt of. I guess I was afraid of his reaction. I was also afraid of what he would say, and if he would offer to engage in it. Quite frankly, I didn't remember nor have any knowledge from my human life about those types of experiences.
As I thought briefly of my human life, something felt off. My human life. What was there to say about it? I think I had a mother and a father...
"Kade," I whimpered. He flashed me a look of worry before asking me what was wrong. "I don't remember who my parents were. Did I even have any?"
"Deryn, joking like that isn't funny. You know damn well about your shitty parents."
"I'm serious!"
When he saw the fear on my face, his expression changed. "You're not kidding, are you?"
I shook my head. He kissed me softly before getting up from the bed and practically smothering me with the blankets that he threw off himself. He told me that I should shower and try to remember things while he went and talked to Milena.

"Milena!" Kade's voice was frantic as he darted through the cabin search of her.
"What?" She groaned, manifesting in the living room.
"Something is wrong with Deryn."
"She didn't get her wings plucked, did she?"
"No, her wings are the least of her problems right now! She's losing her memory."
"We've been over this. It's been gone awhile."
"Dammit, Milena, you're not listening. Her human memories!"
That made Milena's nonchalant expression turn into a look of fear. "Oh."
"What if she forgets her motive? We can't carry out this plan without her!"
"Don't be so quick to assume. This may be a good thing. Now I don't have to worry about dealing with her kindness and she can get back to her wicked, evil self. She can go back to the girl you fell in love with."
