"Deryn, lovely! How nice it is to see you again!" Luc gave me a tight hug.
"It seems like it's been forever." I gazed around at the massive library. "Did you add more books?" I raised an eyebrow.
"My, my, I thought that no one would notice! You caught me." He flashed his teeth. "You, my darling, know how to pay attention to detail."
I returned the smile before deterring the subject away from decoration. "Aileen won't be pestering us while we go through with our plan."
"I was wondering why you three came to visit me." He smoothed a loose hair on the side of his head before continuing. "You nor Kade visit me unless you have something to say."
I shrugged. "I supposed that this was important, so we decided to talk."
He nodded in understanding. "Aileen is out of the way, but what about the other women?"
"There's no telling. With Kade's sister not there to lead them, they'd probably cower away in fear and drop the whole ordeal. Aileen was their only backbone in this."
Luc chuckled. "Spineless fools. Can't even save their precious earth." He began to slowly pace around the room. "Do Ralph and the others understand their part in all of this?"
"I am going to assure tonight that they do."
He smiled again. "Good." Luc walked over to one of the bookcases to stare at the shelves.
Kade walked up and hugged me from behind. He kissed my cheek before swaying us back and forth.
"I love you," he whispered.
"I love you too." I turned myself around in his arms and planted a kiss on his lips.
Milena cleared her throat, but that didn't stop us.
"Uh, guys. We need to go back to the cabin so that Deryn can discuss things with the boys."
"She can go on her own. I think that I'll stay here for tonight."
I poked my lip out. "You don't want to come?"
He shook his head. "Not while you're on business." He gave me a sheepish smile and kissed the tip of my nose.
I sighed. "Fine. I'll meet you later on, then." I stepped away from him, slightly peeved at his reluctance to come with me. I hated spending any more time on Earth than I needed to, but that was the only safe place that I could rendezvous with my angels.
I told Kade, Luc, and Milena goodbye before returning to Earth. I arrived close to the cabin, and I was glad that the air had a fresh scent. Since the cabin was secluded, I wouldn't have to deal with unwanted humans near the property. I'd hate to have to kill before the time is right.
The cabin was dark, but that didn't stop me from not being able to see. I turned the on all of the lamps in the living room with a slight raise of my hand.
Ralph was on the sofa, and three other angels were scattered around the room.
"Joel, Marcus, and Barry." I smiled at them, and they returned the facial expression.
"We've missed you," Marcus said, stepping closer. His lips brushed mine, but I pressed my fingers to them.
"We'll have plenty of time for that," I said softly, biting his lip briefly before stepping back.
"What are we to do?" Barry, the quiet one, spoke up. "We'll do anything for you, Mistress."
I smoothed the front of my shirt while resisting the urge to smile. "I'm in need of four keys."
