 phil / the next day

I woke up suddenly, being jolted awake. "Phil !" Dan yelled, smiling. "Let's go ! Get up!" He said, jumping out of his skin.
"What? Why? What happened?" I asked groggily, squinting to protect my eyes from the blaring sun.
"Nothing, unless you call a pancake craving something. NOW LET'S GO!!" He yelled, tugging on my sleeve.
When I finally got up, his smile matched the sun. "iHop!" He said, practically running down the block, his hands in the air. I laughed. He was such a dork.

Once we got to iHop, Dan practically ran into the establishment. "Dan!" I yelled, struggling to keep up with him. "Slow down! I'm not a runner!" I stopped to catch my breath, keeling over. Dan stopped and turned around.
"Do you want blueberry?" He asked, giggling.
"Dan, if I could stand up right now, I would kick you." I said, smiling at him. He matched my smile and then ran into the iHop. I took a deep breath and ran toward the entrance. I bumped into him in a small corridor outside the main entrance, earning a glare from a small old lady inside, and knocking Dan and myself into a small plastic plant.
"Thanks for at least waiting for me." I said, laughing and rolling off him.
"Anytime, buddy." I turned my head as if it was on a swivel, looking at him. He turned his head too, and I looked into his chocolate brown eyes. I quickly got up.

     "Pancakes?" I asked.
     "Pancakes." He said reassuringly.

We sat in a small booth across from each other.
"Hey, I have a question." Dan asked the waiter, who looked like she didn't want to be there. "May I get a kids menu? Like, the ones you colour?" He asked, smiling. She glared at him, and then pointed her pencil at me. "You want one too?" She asked, her eyes praying I said no. This only made me want to say yes more.
     "Of course." I said, grinning.
She rolled her eyes at us, causing Dan to giggle.

When the waiter gave us our kids menus, Dan looked like a kid in a candy store. He was so cute when he was excited. He was angelic.

My mind scolded me, reminding me I had no chance. I mentally sighed, and began colouring. When he was done, he held up the menu to show me, as a child showing his mother a piece of art he'd done in school would have done.
I smiled. "It's beautiful, like you."
Only, I didn't say that. "Cute." I said, looking past the dinosaur plastered onto the paper and at his smile. His dimples. His rosy nose and cheeks from the cold London weather.

"Absolutely adorable." I said one last time.
