     - the next day

After Phil and I went to iHop, we decided to go to my house. His mom called him and said it would be safe for him to come home, but he said he was going to be at my house for a while. When we walked into my house, I was greeted by my sister sitting on the couch, and my mom nowhere in sight.
Stella glared at me. "Where you been? And who's that, your new boyfriend?" She said, smirking. "That was rude." Phil muttered. I nodded. "Where's mum?" I asked, ignoring her witty comment. She ignored me and continued flipping through channels on the TV.
"Answer my question, Daniel." She said in a serious tone. I sighed. "I was in Jubilee Gardens and iHop, and this is Phil."
"Boyfriend?" She asked, eyeing him. "I wish." I thought. "No, he's not my boyfriend, nor will he be yours. Now leave me alone, you little bugger." I said. "Phil, let's go." I said, grabbing his hand and guiding him to my room.

He sat on my bed, looking flushed. "You okay?" I asked. His eyes widened. "Y-yeah!" He said frantically. I could tell he was lying, but I didn't want to bother him, so I let it slide. "So...what do you want to do? I have an Xbox." I said, taking my phone out of my pocket and putting it on the charger.
"Do you have Netflix?" He asked, fidgeting with his hands. "Do fish breathe water? Of course I have Netflix!" I said, turning on my Xbox.
"What do you want to watch?" I asked. He thought for a moment. "How about The Babadook?" He asked.
I nodded, searching "The Babadook." It was around 5:30 and the sun was beginning to set, which added to the "spooky" nature of the movie. I snuggled into Phil, laying my head on his shoulder.
The movie was...strange. To say the least. It was about a demon-like thing that this woman's son was trying to fight and it entered through his one book and no one believed him until it possessed his mom and made her kill their dog and almost him. Now every year on his birthday, she has to feed the babadook.
"Do you know weird teenage girls write fanfiction about the babadook?" Phil said, laughing. "No fucking way! You're kidding, right?" I said. He shook his head. I sighed. "Everyday we stray further from God's light."
My mom knocked on the door. "Dan, can we talk please?" She asked. "Not right now, mom." I said. She opened the door anyways. "I know that yesterday was rough, and I am sorr-" She stopped immediately when she noticed Phil. "Oh. I didn't know you had company. I'll come back later." She said, stepping out as she said it. "Close the door, please." I said. She didn't. I sighed.
"Should I leave?" Phil asked. "No, it's fine." I said. "Please, stay."
      And so he did.
