Talia POV

"Thanks for a great day, Shawn." I smiled as I reached my car.

"We'll have to do it again sometime." He smiled back.

"For sure."

We said our goodbyes before we went our separate ways. The ride home was just as uneventful as the way there.

"Hi sweetie, how was your afternoon?" my mother asked as I walked through the front door.

"It was actually a lot of fun, thanks for asking."

I slipped off my sandals and put them in my shoe bin.

"That's great because it's one of the last times that will happen."

"W-what?" I stuttered, taking back by her words, "what does that mean?"

"Well, I've decided I am your mother and if I ask you to simply watch your little brother for a day so I can keep a roof over your head and food on the table, I expect you to do it with no problem." Her teeth gritted together, "for the rest of the summer, you will be watching Jackson from sunrise to sunset. I can go out whenever I want and you can see how hard taking care of a kid is."

"Your acting like I'm pregnant or something. "I mumbled.

"Starting now. I'm going out."

She picked up Jackson and placed him in my arms and walked out the front door.

"What crawled up mommy's ass today?" I asked Jackson.

My phone buzzed from the FaceTime call.

"Hiya Shawn!" I smiled as the call connected.

"Hiya Talia!" he mocked me.

"Lia?" I heard Jackson yell from his room.

"I'm sorry, I'll be right back."

I left Shawn and walked into Jackson's room. He sat there on his bed, crying.

"What's wrong bud?" I asked, picking him up.

"I can't sleep." He rested his head on my shoulder.

"You want to meet Shawn?" I asked.

His little head popped up and joy filled his eyes. With Jackson in my arms, I walked back to my room and Shawn.

"I'm back!" I yelled, hoping to scare him, "Jackson, here's Shawn."

"Is he yours?" Shawn's eyes filled with fear.

"No, this is my brother I have to babysit." I giggled.

We continued talking for a while, but Jackson eventually fell asleep in my arms.

"I should go up him, and myself, to bed. Thanks for talking, Shawn." I smiled at the camera.

"Sleep tight Talia." He blew a kiss at the phone before I disconnected the call and put Jackson to bed.

"Morning Tal, time to get up." My mother's voice echoed through my empty room.

"What's going on?" I asked, my voice groggy.

"Were moving." She replied bluntly.

"Huh?"

"A for sale sign has been in our front yard for weeks, didn't you notice it?" she asked.

"I guess not." I shrugged my shoulders.

"Get up and start packing." She left my room, slamming the door shut on the way out.

I stretched and climbed out of bed, very tired. Outside of by door, there was a stack of boxes. I grabbed them all and hauled them into my room. I started with the closet and made my way around my room.

By the time I finished, it was 7 pm. I had not check my phone all day, so when I opened it was full of dms from Shawn.

@shawnmendes; aye talia

We left the conversation there and I went to finish packing everything up.

"We have a flight at five in the morning tomorrow, Talia!" my mother yelled from her room.

"See you then." I flicked off the lights in my room and laid down on the cold, hardwood flooring with a thin blanket covering my body.

My bed, dresser, and desk were all moved out of my room earlier today. After I few hours, sleep finally took over my body.

authors note // here's a quick update for you! I'm thinking about starting a new book, but I don't know what it should be about. Any suggestions?
