"Keith can you possibly fuck off?" I ask Two-Bit for the fiftieth time.
He's been trying to make me watch Mickey with him all day I was trying to finish my homework.
I look over and see him pouting, giving me puppy dog eyes. No one can resist.
I huff and get up from the Curtis's dining room table and go sit on the floor in front of the tv with Two-Bit.
"This is why I love Helena more than you Darrel," Two-Bit says wrapping an arm around me, taking a swig of his beer that was in his other hand.
Darry rolls his eyes and turns the page in the newspaper he was reading. I sit there for half an hour listening to Two-Bit make jokes and giggle while I try to drone out Mickey.
The front door opens and I hear feet shuffle in then hear a door slam.
"The whole damn neighborhood is gonna call the cops and complain on how loud you guys close the door," Darry says looking over at the three boys that just entered the house.
"Let 'em call the fuzz, I don't care," Dallas says running a hand through his ungreased hair.
"Hey Helena," Johnny says coming to sit next to me.
Johnny and I have this brother sister like bond between us and tell each other everything. Johnny isn't as timid with me as he is others.
"Hey Johnnycakes," I say giving him a side hug, "how was the movie?"
"Boring, we left early and went to get a shake at Dingo," he says.
"Nice," I laugh.
"Helena can you help me with my homework?" Ponyboy asks me.
"Sure thang Pony," I get up from my spot on the floor and walk into his and Soda's shared room
"Math?" I question.
"You guessed it," he sighs.
Pony excels at literature and English more than math. I'm average in every class but since I'm a junior and Pony's a freshman I know a bit more than him.
I help the kid with his math and walk back into the kitchen and shove the homework I left on the table in my backpack. I go and sit next to Dally on the couch.
"So Lena, I'm going to the nightly double tomorrow night. Wanna join and help me out a bit," Dal says with his deep accented voice.
Dallas is the only one in the gang who calls me Lena and the only person I allow to call me that. I secretly blush every time he calls me Lena.
"Why not," I shrug.
"That's my girl," Dal wrapping an arm around me for a quick hug.
I feel my face heat up a bit but cool down before anyone can see.
Usually when we hit the nightly double I distract our opponent with my body while Dal goes in for the kill. I can play some mean pool if I need too though. When Dallas is with me the guys we play usually bet more money.
"Well I'm gonna hit they hay guys," I say getting up I pat Dal's shoulder and go to the kitchen to grab my bag.
"Bye Helenaaaa," Two-bit says dragging out the last letter in my name.
"See ya hun," Darry says pulling me into a protective hug.
"Stay safe," Johnny says hugging me.
"I will just for you," I smile.
I grab my jean jacket and put it on along with my backpack.
"See ya Pony," I slightly yell down the hall to Pony.
"Bye!" He yells back.
"Tell Steve and Soda I said hi," I say on my way out the door.
"Will do," Darry says waving to me.
I walk along the sidewalk about 7 blocks down is my house not too far I don't exactly have a car so I just walk where I need.
I open the door to my house which in unsafely never locked. Seeing my mom passed out with her face on the kitchen table beer in hand is a warm welcoming.
I pass her and go down the hall to my little bedroom, I open my backpack and pull out my drawing pad and try to finish my drawing of my dad.
Before I know it I'm asleep at my desk.
