It's here...
The snow.
It came falling on ground - covering it completely. The citizens of Kyoto were now in their homes, hiding from the cold weather. So long has passed, yet everyone is still going around the same routine - the same life.
It's as if the snow has taken away Mei's emotions and feelings, it's as if she doesn't care anymore. Of course, deep down she knew that isn't true, because she does care. She cares about Japan, she cares about him.
Mei was 100% sure that Tomoe is a betrayer, if only she had solid evidence to show Katsūra-san. He suspects that there is a spy within the Clan, and Mei agrees with him - because the spy is Tomoe.
The brunette shared her thoughts with him and the rest of the Clan. They say that they think it's safe to believe that she means no harm.
But one thing Mei couldn't deny, was her love for Kenshin. It's genuine, and Kenshin feels the same as well.
Mei was a bit hurt once she acknowledged that fact, but part of her was happy for Kenshin.
She just wanted to stay by his side, for she will be truly happy that way.
Time passes, days turn into weeks, and weeks turn into months. Mei rarely visits the two anymore, due to certain assignments Katsur- assigns her to. She still writes to him, and usually gets a reply the next day.
The nights were long, Mei returns to the Inn and collapse on her futon - then the next day is exactly the same. Mei just wishes for this Revolution to end, she wishes to live in peace - without the bloodshed.
Mei wanted to live in a world where no one had to be in the dark anymore - She wanted to see the sun shine, she wanted to see children running on the streets, playing together, she wanted to hear laughter from a distance, she wanted to see people getting along.
Was that too much to wish for? Is it too much to wish for a world where people can live, laugh and love? Mei didn't want to be Chimamire nō Jasūmin anymore, she wanted to be Mei Hayashi, a regular Japanese citizen living in Japan and living life to the fullest - without taking away any lives.
She prayed to God every night from the bottom of her heart and just wished for this War is end.
"Mei, We've got news, and you...were right." A figure had cut Mei from her thoughts. She looked at the figure, "What?"
"You were right, Tomoe is the spy. And we've got proof: Her journal." He explained.
Mei let the information sink in, "What?" She asked, shocked.
"We've been investigating for quite some time now, and she is the finacé of that bodyguard you and Himura-san assassinated months ago."
"Akira...!? She's his finacé!?" She exclaimed. "So...she's seeking revenge?" Mei asked.
"She's on her way to her comrades right now, Iizuka-San departed to inform Himura-sa--Hayashi-San! Where're you going?!"
Mei got up and rushed to her room, grabbing her sword as she ran as fast as her legs could carry her. She couldn't believe it was true, she couldn't believe Tomoe betrayed Kenshin like this.
Mei thought she loved him, why would she betray him?
Mei was breathing so heavily with every step she took. Now her comrades must be wanting to kill Kenshin and her, So she had to hurry.
