Kenshin sighed - Not a normal sigh, but a very saddened one. He read the letter over and over again, trying to process the situation. 'How did Mei get struck by an opponents' blade?' He asked himself mentally.
In all honestly, he was quite worried. He didn't show it to Tomoe, but he felt uneasy and needed to see his childhood friend with his very own eyes.
With all this, Mei might have caught a virus from an unclean blade, which made him even more worried.
He crumbled the piece of paper with Katsura's handwriting and let out a sigh, "She'll be fine." He told himself.
"...She has to be..." He said softly, before Tomoe entered the room with a candle in her grasp. "Is everything alright?" Her soft voice spoke.
"Everything is fine...!" Said Kenshin, quite harshly might I say.
Silence filled the air; Before Kenshin let out a sigh and looked at that black-haired woman, "I'm sorry, I'm just a little overwhelmed." He says.
"Oh...I see." She says softly. The two sit in silence, before Kenshin decides to break it, "...Mei was wounded by her opponent's blade this evening." He looks back at the paper.
"Is she alright?" Tomoe asks, "I'm not sure...her energy is completely drained and she might--"
Kenshin gasped, suddenly remembering something - Suddenly seeing Mei in his mind:
Flashback:
Two children sat on the green grass, staring at the stars above them. The scarlet haired boy and brunette girl were relaxing as the cool wind brushed against their faces. "Shinta?"The girl asked as she scooted closer to him with a toothy grin on her face, "Yes Mei?" The boy replied and returned the gesture.
"Would you mind if I...plait your hair?" She asked sweetly, "Plait my hair? Why?" He asked as he looked at her with confusion written all over his face, "Because! Your hair is so nice and long...and it looks so...plaitable!" She giggled.
"Do you even know how to plait hair?" He asked, "Of course I do!" She pouted. "...Okay, fine. You can plait my hair." He smiled and turned his back to her, allowing the brunette to do it.
Once her hands touched his hair, she smiled. "Wow Shinta! Your hair is so soft!" She exclaimed, causing him to blush, "J-Just plait my hair!" He said, causing her to giggle softly. "Let's do this regularly, okay?"
Shinta felt her hands in his scalp as she gently pulled his hair to create the style.
"Okay." He replied with a smile.
End of Flashback.
At that moment, Kenshin's eyes were wider than they have ever been in a while.
He furrowed his brows in a confused manner, before shaking his head and looking to Tomoe. "As I was saying, Mei's energy is drained and she might have...a...virus..."
He trailed off, another memory popping in his head:
Flashback;
"You made this?" Asked a surprised Hiko as he stared at the bowl of food before him. "Yup! It's Miso soup with Mei's twist on it!"
Mei grinned happily. Kenshin stared at the bowl and grabbed his spoon before taking a taste.
"...This is actually really tasty..." Kenshin stared at the soup before hungrily slurping every drop of soup there is.
"You're welcome." She winked at the two males before taking her seat and drinking her own soup.
"I must say, I'm pretty good at this~"
