Pain

"Hush, darling. Don't cry.
Papa's here. Now don't whine.
It's just a needle, you see"
And trusting him for once
Despite the palpitations that only increased
I shut my eyes and bore the pain.
But that was just a needle
Thin, sharp and plain.
Piercing through my flesh
Testing my confidence.

"Hush, darling. We're in this together
She'll be with us forever and ever."
And as my soul shattered and my heart raced
I trusted him for once and bore the pain.
I stood there with my wounded heart
Well, life surely was playing a game.

"Hush, sweetie. Be brave.
Don't let those tears escape
Don't let the world see
Don't dig your own grave."
And so I let go
I let loose the ties
I let my heart break
Into pieces that fell with a thud
I let go of my first love.

"Hush lady. Don't cry
Papa's here. Now don't whine
You'll do fine (without me)
Just don't live in vain
Be bold
And endure the pain."
