"Jake get your little bastard ass out here."
He flinched as he huddled in the corner of the bathroom, terrified to leave the safety it provided. He pulled his knees to his chest as his wide eyes never left the door. Jake knew what would come of his stalling, but if it would save himself from receiving the pain he knew was coming his way, he'd take it.
The handle rattled and the banging on the door grew louder. His vision blurred when it all stopped and he heard the click of the lock.
Jumping to his feet he waited, contemplating how to get out of the small bathroom. The last time he was trapped in here he had cracked his head on the side of the tub.
The door opened and he bolted past the figure, he could smell the alcohol seeping from her pores. He had just made it into the main space of the hotel room before the hair on his head was grabbed painfully.
His body felt weightless as it flew through the air before crashing into the wall with a sickening crack.
"I told you to get out here you little shit. We need to go meet the Alpha. Since your piece of shit Alpha father didn't want us we need to find somewhere to go."
It had been the same thing since he could remember. His mother talked about his father Lucas and how he was the Alpha of his pack, but didn't want him or his mom because some female came along and tricked him into being with her.
It made him sad. As much as his mother talked bad out his father, Jake held onto hope that he wanted him as a son.
His thoughts were interrupted by the sting of the belt on his back. He knew not to beg, it only made it worse. Biting his lip he let out silent screams. His body tensed as he felt the first trickles of blood roll down his back.
"Don't fucking bleed all over the rug. We can't afford to replace the carpets. Now go clean yourself up."
With that his mother swung the belt again and this time a scream left his lips.
Jake jerked up, a thin coat of sweat covering his body. It had been so long since he had that dream. Running a hand down his face he could still feel the sting of the belt on his back. He had suffered greatly that night, his mother angered by the cry that came from his lips.
It didn't take long for the Alpha to realize there was something wrong. The coppery smell of blood reached Alpha Michael Ashe's nose before they had fully stepped into the office. Jake immediately noticed the scrunching of his nose before his eyes landed on him.
Jake didn't stay long enough before he bolted out the house. A smile graced his lips, it was that run that he had ran into Landon.
Literally.
They both went crashing to the ground which then turned into the both of them tumbling around on the ground. Each of them throwing punches. Jake being a first born Alpha was strong and quickly took control of the fight.
A passing warrior saw them and broke them up. They were dragged to the pack house and deposited in the Alpha's office. His mother had pulled her top down and was flirting up a storm with the Alpha. He knew it now for what it was, she was hoping to bag him and raise her status.
A quick growl stopped her attempts though. The warrior that had brought Landon and himself in was looking at his mother with a look he had seen only by two other couples, Lucas when he looked at Grace and Landon when he watched his sister.
That was the last time he had seen his mother. The scout had looked upon him with disgust and the last words his mother spoke to him were how much of a nuisance he was and how he ruined her life.
His bedroom door opened and he saw his youngest sister poke her head in.
"You okay Jake? I heard you scream. It sounded like you were in pain."
Jake scooted over and motioned for her to join him. This was a nightly thing. She would find an excuse to come to his room, usually with the reason of having a nightmare.
"Yeah, I'm okay Crystal. You have a nightmare again?" He watched as she shook her head before sitting on the foot of the bed
"No, but I was wondering," she trailed off.
Jake pulled the comforter down and motioned her with his head. She beamed before jumping in next to him. It had taken the other two awhile to warm up to him, but Crystal hated being separated from him for to long.
"I won't be able to do this much longer."
Jake noted the hint of sadness in her voice and looked down at her, "why is that baby girl?"
Crystal scrunched her nose and he laughed. "Daddy said that you're going to have a mate soon and she is going to take my place."
Jake scoffed, "I told you Crystal, you are my main girl. Nobody is going to take your place."
"Not even your mate?" She asked with hopeful eyes looking at him.
"You'll be my main girl for always. I made it clear, I don't want nor will I have a mate."
Crystal nodded before snuggling into the bed and falling asleep. It had taken him by surprise the first time she crawled in with him but he didn't have the heart to deny her. He had missed so much of his sister's lives and he refused to ruin any moment they had together.
They were still waiting on word from the other pack to when they would be arriving. Lucas didn't see a problem with it but Jake took it as a sign of disrespect. How Lucas can allow a visiting pack to control this was beyond him. He couldn't wait to fully take the title. There would be changes in this pack.
Big changes.
