I sat in the chair stunned.
"What do you mean they change our names?"
"They change our names."
"Whatever, they won't change my name."
The kid named Josh sat forward.
"They already have."
"They don't even know my name to be able to change it."
He leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms.
"They don't need to know your name to change it."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"Your name is already gone. They already switched it, and you better except it or you will get hurt."
"What do you care?"
His eyes snapped up to me.
"I didn't want this mission, but you will learn soon of what happens when you don't follow orders."
"But why does that make you care."
His cold stare changed to pity.
"I don't believe anyone should end up here."
"Then why did you bring me here?"
He stood up in frustration. I heard him mutter something under his breath.
"Because if I didn't I would be dead. This place doesn't take kindly to those who fail."
I slowly stood and walked to the boy.
"Vile."
"What?"
He turned towards me with shock.
"My name."
"Huh?"
"Vile, its my name."
He smiled at me for once.
"How are you not scared of me?"
"Because I can tell in your eyes that you didn't want to do what you did."
He finally fully faced me.
"I have to ask, what makes you so... special, what is this test you took?"
I looked down.
"Well, a certain group of students was called to the gym, all I know is that we had to be able to complete all these tasks without failing, I was the only one to pass. I watched as the others as they were shot in the head once they failed."
I looked down.
"Those basters."
"Excuse me?"
"They said they wouldn't do the school testing, but they did, they freaken did."
I grabbed his arm.
"Forget it."
"What?"
"Josh listen to me, forget it, they will kill you if they find out that you know."
"How do you know that?"
"If they didn't tell you, they wouldn't have wanted you to know. You got to think like them if you want to survive."
"Smart, and don't talk about my name, and never give up yours, just go by the name they give you."
I smiled at him.
"I hope it won't be deary, you tend to call me that a lot."
"Oh deary, I wouldn't take that as a bad thing."
I rolled my eyes.
"Do you know what it will be?"
"I heard something about Nate, they said something like, what to do with Nate, right before I came in."
"Nate huh that isn't too bad, at least it isn't Heaven or something like that."
I smirked at him.
"Was that suppose to hurt me, because I mean, that was bad."
I laughed.
"At least I didn't say a stupid joke."
He raised an eyebrow.
"Now that is very true, but I think it is finally time to get you out of here."
"Then let's."
"So Nate, this is the assassin institute, here you will compete for the main assassin spot, if fail you die, easy. I am assigned to help you train and make it through. Aka I am your partner. This place take very serious in rule breaking and any other thing. It is bad to not follow orders, if you don't you will be tortured or killed."
"Wow cheery place,"
He laughed but quickly muted it.
"Also, don't talk back to officers, they are given orders to kill on sight if angered."
"God this is cheer try outs all over again."
I slapped my hand to my forehead.
"Stop!"
I turned to Josh.
"What?"
"You have a sense of humor but that will get you killed."
"No, they will not take that away. I will not let them, I will beat the shit out of them if they try."
He smiled.
"Now that is how you should think but killing is everything."
"No, killing is not, when you have to, yeah."
"Don't say that, ever! Do you hear me!?"
"Wow, ok ok. I just said one little thing."
"Yeah that one thing is like cussing to a 5 year old"
I held my hand up in surrender.
"Fine, what ever."
"No not what ever, when spoken to by an officer you say yes sir or má'am."
"Fine... we sorry yes sir."
"We will fix that."
I looked at him, just incase I don't make it in this place I want to remember someone that is friend and not a foe. Josh had blond shaggy hair that fell over his eyes. His eyes were the color of the brightest water. And he was built, not an inch of fat on him all muscle. He turned towards me and saw I was staring at him. His smile grew on his face.
"What is it deary, do I have something on my face?"
I shook my head.
"No, I just want to remember something that is friend and not foe for if I don't make it."
He slapped his hands on my shoulder and bent to my higth and looked in to my hazel eyes.
"Never think that, never, you are strong and smart, you are going to make it."
"But..."
"No you will make it."
I tried hiding my fears but I couldn't now, I was living it. I let my fear be turned to confidence.
"Then lets go."
I looked him in the eye, knowing they were cold.
"Yes Nate, let's go."
I smiled and we continued down twist and turns of hall ways. Soon we were at a weapon room. Filled of pistols, knives, swords, bows and arrows, and any kind of weapon you can think of. I was impressed.
"So why does this place have so many weapons?"
Josh chuckled at my question.
"These are only the practice ones, we used them to fight, kill and train. The more expensive ones are for official assassins."
"So we actually kill others during training?"
"Yes, that is how we make it easy to train for killing on a mission or for killing when told. You must train like it is life or death."
God, how did I get stuck in this mess?
