"Pirates!" I screech, the word tearing at my throat as it struggles to escape my mouth.
I frantically back up, my back hitting the hard wood of the railing. I stumble and my eyes snap shut as I begin to fall over the boat's edge. All of a sudden, strong hand grabs my wrist and yanks me back onto the boat. I open my eyes to see the salmon-haired young man's face not even a foot away from my own. "Woah there, Princess! You don't wanna fall overboard again!"
"Aye!" A high-pitched voice yells.
Something small, blue, and furry shoots out from the below-decks. It lands on my head and curls up with a content sigh. I scream and, startled, it flies off of my head. "You've got a jumpy one, there, Natsu!" The thing says, perching on the man's, who's name I now know is Natsu, shoulder.
I can see the odd creature clearly now. It's a cat. But it's not a normal cat, not by a long shot. It's fur is a bright blue color and there are wings protruding from its back. I little green sack is tied around it's neck in an, almost adorable, knot. The woman with the dark, scarlet hair rolls her eyes. "Idiots," She murmurs, "You're scaring the poor girl!" she turns to me with a bright smile stretching across her beautiful face.
"I'm Erza, that girl over there is Wendy," the young girl waves and shoots me an adorable smile. "The one WHO CAN'T KEEP HIS DAMN CLOTHES ON is Gray," the man with the dark hair rolls his eyes at her extremely unsubtle scolding. "The cat is Happy and the idiot Happy's on is Natsu, this ship's captain. We've got a few more down below you can meet if we find you trustworthy."
"What's your name?" Wendy asks sweetly.
I hesitate before answering. Should I trust these people? They all seem so close, like a family. A real family. A family that looks out for one another and loves each other. I realize now that I want to stay here, I want to be a part of this family. I have to be! "My name is Lucy," I smile at them, "And I'd very much like to meet the rest of your crew!"
They all stand still for a moment. I see Gray's dark eyes look me over a few times, almost as if he's scanning me. He smiles brilliantly, "I say we trust her, she's got spunk."
Happy flies up onto my shoulder, his little black nose twitching. "Aye!" He shouts directly into my ear.
I flinch and put a hand to my ear. "Ow! Excuse me!"
He soars up on my head and just lies there. "I agree with Gray! Also, her head is very comfortable!"
A giggle bubbles up from inside my chest and I cover my mouth with my hand, trying to stifle it. I see Erza glancing around at the rest of the group. Natsu looked at Happy, who was still sleeping on my head, and his face twisted into a very phony pout. He smiles and says, "Well, if Happy trusts you, then I guess I do too, Princess."
"Wendy?" Erza says, looking over at the young, purple-haired girl.
Wendy looks over me, scanning me as Gray did, and a smile immediately spreads across her face. "I like her, she seems trustworthy. And if she's not..."
"We've got Natsu and Gajeel to stop her." Erza finishes, nodding.
"Who's Gajeel?" I ask, a little confused.
"Oh no." Gray says, moaning and putting his head in his hands.
"'Oh no' w..." I trail off, seeing the look on Natsu's face.
"Gajeeeeel!" He shouts, "Let's go! We need to see who is the BEST swordsman in ALL OF FAIRY TAIL!"
Natsu runs off across the deck, down the stairs, and out of sight. "Ummm... What's happening?" I ask.
Gray sighs, obviously annoyed. "Gajeel and Natsu are always dueling to see who's the 'best swordsman.'"
"Not just them." Wendy giggles. Erza smiles and they both look towards Gray."
Something hits me that I didn't realize before. "Wait, you guys are from Fairy Tail?"
"So you've heard of us?" Erza says raising an eyebrow at me.
"Heard of you! You guys are the most famous pirate group of all time!"
"Really?" Erza laughs.
"Ezra's just being modest." Wendy glances over at Gray and talks a little quieter, as if she's telling me a secret, "She's Fairy Tail's best swordsman, or swords woman I guess you could say."
"Hey! I heard that!" Gray says, a little teasingly.
All of a sudden, we hear loud crashing and shouting coming from downstairs. My eyes widen, the others just look completely unfazed. "What in the world was that!" I say.
"Natsu and Gajeel." Gray says, rolling his black eyes.
They all start to walk down toward the stairs. I follow close behind, wondering what I got myself into.
