"Charlotte?" I didn't recognize the voice. I could tell it was deeper than Dante's, but it wasn't Dante's.Who? Who are you? I couldn't speak. The blast was filled with something and I couldn't tell if I was awake or if this was all a dream. I could feel my body panicking but I couldn't make it stop.
"Shes going into shock! I need the medic." His voice spoke again.
All of a sudden everything felt calm. I still couldn't see anything, but my mind was awake. I could hear everything. Who is this? Where am I? What is going on? Help me! My head screamed. Maybe I was captured or maybe I wasn't but I wasn't going to find out until I woke up, if I ever woke up.
The Guard was always on high alert for those who were not identifiable. Many of the Last weren't safe no matter where we scattered to. There were always some new threats such as 'blinders' or 'incapacitators' but that didn't stop the Last. We were smarter and we usually kept a safe distance. Tonight wasn't the case since dinner was cut very short. Someone had sent them out to scout the homes. It didn't seem right there was a raid. they were prepared. The thing was not who but why? We knew many would call The Guard on us in Helios if we weren't careful, but we always were. We just weren't exactly prepared for this since no one has come down to scout so early in a while. Even if it didn't seem like it, unlike Idilia we weren't being watched as closely. We didn't have the resources or survival tools to survive. At least that's what we made them believe.
The air around me seemed to be thinning and just when I thought nothing could get worse it got extra dark. There was no sky, but black. There was absolutely no stars, no light, no sun, there was nothing. I couldn't feel anything. I wanted to tell him I was okay. I wanted to scream. My lungs were heavy. It all stopped. It was still. The Guard had won. I was losing the battle.I am completely numb. All I could do was listen.
"What are we going to do?" That voice spoke again.
"She's not part of our unit. This is going to ruin everything." This was a woman. She was angry. Her voice was shaking.
"I wasn't going to leave her behind." I could hear the fight in his voice.
"She isn't our responsibility. We are all in danger." This wasn't the Guard, she was a Last member. There were voices arguing around me. I could barely understand them.
"Neil, she is now your responsibility."
"You want me to let her die?"
"She isn't supposed to be here!"
"Sage!"
"No, Neil. Charlotte is not our mission. Kill or be killed, remember?"The voices were more distinct.
"No brother, no sister shall fall behind. We fight for honor. We live for freedom. There is no fear we cannot out run. There is no man more powerful we cannot overcome. We are the Last, and we will not abandon." The voice that must have been Neil's repeated the creed. Defending my safety.
"Enough, I know the creed." Sage spat out."
You would have left us all behind. You are also not the leader of the unit Sage."
"We have been divided for our protection and we have trained separately. We don't know how far behind she is." He paused. "Exactly, she may not be able to keep up. She probably doesn't know the codes." She hated me and she didn't even know me. I probably knew more than her anyways. My team trained with me in all areas.
"I have watched her train. She is in the only unit with the capability to work as a team."
"Then you need to ask everyone else if they are okay with this."The voices stopped. Time over took me to sleep.
