You leaned on the counter and stared out the window, resting your chin in the palm of your hand. Out there, people wandered around. Teenagers were texting their friends or hanging out in other little coffee shops, little kids held their parents' hands as they walked home, and adults walked in tired manners to their cars. It was a Friday night. You should have been out with your friends or watching movies at home! Yet, here you were, stuck in your parents boring candy shop. No one came in here. No one wanted boring old candies. Well, except for the regular customer, Laughing Jack. He didn't count, though, because he ate every type of candy that existed. Anyways, he wouldn't get here for another half hour. You weren't sure how he ate all that candy, and why did he always buy so many hard candies? You never talked to him much, so you only knew his name. It wasn't like you wanted to know anything else about him. The small brass bell above the public entrance door made it's chiming noise and you looked up to see who had entered the store.
"How can I help you?" you asked.
"Well, you can tell me why you're here instead of at my house, for starters," they answered. You realized you had promised Jeff that you would go with him while he killed tonight. You groaned, knowing you had made a complete mistake. When your parents had asked if you were busy tonight, you had told them you weren't.
"Worker called in sick and my parents asked me to cover the shift. Sorry!"
"You better be sorry! Now I'm taking you with me every time I go killing," he declared.
"Mm hm, and when am I supposed to sleep?" you asked, leaning your back against the counter and twirling your hair in between your middle and pointer fingers.
"Well-"
"Don't answer that," you said, cutting him off before he could answer, knowing what his response would've been. Jeff chuckled and you let a small smile slip. "Looks like you'll just have to survive killing by yourself. Think you can handle that, or do I need to send the FBI with you?"
"Or I could just not go killing." You snorted.
"Right. Like you could go a day without killing at least one person!"
"Is that a challenge?"
"I don't know, is it?" you asked, turning back around with a smirk.
"I could easily go a day without laying a finger on anyone!"
"Prove it, killer boy."
"I will!" You rolled your eyes. He wouldn't ever be able to do that.
"Sure, Jeff. Sure."
"Okay, if you don't believe me, let's make it a little more interesting."
"How so?" you asked, leaning forward with intrigue.
"If I win, you have to go killing with me for the rest of your life."
"If I win, you have to take over any shifts for me for the rest of your life."
"Deal!" He stuck out his hand for you to shake, which you eagerly did.
"You start tonight at midnight."
