|three|

lucy pushed the creaky wooden door open and stepped inside. rays of sunlight beamed through broken windows, and some holes in the ceiling. vines were woven around chairs and tables. rats squeaked and ran across the floorboards where pieces of plates and debris remained.

lucy let go of her suitcase, and took another step inside the remains of natsu and happy's home. "looks like time took it's toll, here." she whispered, dragging her fingers against a table that was coated in a thin sheet of dust.

she wandered around the abandoned home, finding nothing valuable for her use-much to lucy's dismay. however, it could serve as a place to sleep for a few nights. lucy was grateful nonetheless for that one.

she found herself standing in the doorway of a bedroom, and the familiar scent of natsu filled her nose. she remembered it so vividly.

she never would have forgotten it.

'this was natsu and happy's room..' she thought to herself, a memory of the two having a "tickle-fight" flashed through her mind as she looked to his bed. all smiles on that day. a lump begun to form in her throat, and she could feel the tears waiting to overflow at any moment.

lucy wouldn't cry.

not yet, that is.

the blankets and sheets were rumpled, and pillows were scattered around the large bed. lucy ran over to the bed and placed her hand on it, flattening out the sheets.

much to her surprise; there wasn't as much dust on it as she thought there would be.

lucy investigated the room further, and found a rather small chest peaking out from behind a bookshelf. lucy walked over to it, and picked it up. she took a seat and opened it, finding a letter. "a letter? strange.." she held the item gently in her fingertips, and scanned over it.

she flipped it to it's backside-

"to; lucy." she read aloud.

"you coming, natsu?" happy said, summoning his wings. beautiful, long arms of feather lifted him into the air as they flapped in the light breeze.

it was a fairly nice day out. the sun warmed the early morning air just to the right temperature. drops of dew slid off of leaves, splatting against fallen ones below. birds chirped and squirrels squeaked.

natsu turned to face happy, wiping away at his eyes that had crusted over from last nights break-down. he nodded his head and stood up.
"ah. i'm going with you, happy."

happy's face instantly lit up, and he flew at natsu with full force, crushing into his torso. natsu-being 50% muscle, could hardly feel a thing from the tiny fuzz-ball. in fact, his meant to be "rough" hug had felt like a tickle in his side. but natsu wrapped his hands around the exceed's back nonetheless and gratefully returned the hug.

"yayy, natsu~!!" he squealed such things out, rubbing his face up and down is arm. natsu chuckled and happy looked up; eyes slightly widened. natsu raised an eyebrow and questioned what the fur ball was looking at.

"natsu. i think that's the first time you've truly smiled! are you excited to see lucy?"

natsu's heartbeat sped up, and his cheeks began to heat. a memory of lucy during tataros flashed through his mind.

natsu had been trying to convince himself that igneel's death didn't happen and that it was just another nightmare.. only when he looked into lucy's eyes, he saw that it was true. igneel's death had happened. the sadness in her eyes was all it took to convince him that.

she placed a hand on his for arm, sadly smiling to him. more tears fell from his eyes, and lucy took him in her own arms. she squeezed him so tight, and shed her own tears with him. the guild that was momentarily surrounding the two, had all parted ways to give them their needed privacy.

natsu remembered all the times she was there to comfort him, and when she was there when he needed her most.

"natsu~!!" happy whined, snapping natsu from his daydream. "you're ignoring me again!"

"g-gomene. what'd you say again?" happy rolled his eyes at that comment.

"i said we should get going now. it may take a few days to get back to magnolia." natsu nodded his head in agreement, standing up and brushing his pants off.

"lets go see lucy!!"
