I slipped my hand in yours.

And instantly regretted it, three more months and you'll be gone.

I need to stop getting too attached.

Maybe you don't even want an overtly attached girl.

You want to go out there, go to a prestigious college, explore.

Or maybe you want to go home, the place you came from before you met me.

Anywhere but here.

I decided to let go before I messed everything up.

But you grabbed on tightly for two seconds more, and I felt the pressure on my skin. I felt the firmness of your touch. And the warmth of your soft skin. It was like in those two seconds, I felt the universe around me just shift a little bit.

Then you leaned in and said something that knocked the wind out of my lungs.

"I don't want to go anywhere anymore. I want to stay right here."

And I was speechless because I wondered which alien replaced the boy that craved adventure, that would spend his free time planning imaginary trips, the boy that wanted to go back to his beautiful picturesque home.

I wondered why you would want to stay in a small town that held nothing for you.

This actually wasn't exactly what happened, I tweaked it a little bit to match the plot better but kept the gist of what actually happened.
