10. Forlorn Pt. 2

"I love you too, my precious brother."

Somehow those words hurt more than those shards of glass flung at me. They don't burn as much as the thought of never being able to be the one to forever be by her and protect her.

She breaks the hug, leaving a tingling warmth behind as she let out a small smile once more.

Which made my heart ache, and she continued to clean up for the mess her father created.

"Taehyung we should get some rest." She brushed the final remnants of glass into the dustbin and placed the broom and dustpan back into the hardware closet.

"I don't feel like sleeping." I rubbed my eyes quickly and saw my sister softly giggling.

"Is that an excuse for wanting me to sleep next to you again?" She chuckled at my eager response and we both went upstairs to my room.

"Goodnight, Taehyung." She places a soft kiss on my forehead when we entered the covers of my bed.

"Goodnight." I pecked her cheek before I slept, I heard her chuckling as I blushed and turned away.

"Oh, you are so precious." She wraps her arms around me and ended up falling asleep a few moments later.

Carefully, I turned to face her. Admiring her attractive features, she was so beautiful that sometimes I was afraid she may be taken away.

You're too beautiful to handle sometimes..

"Can't you see my true feelings for you?" I whisper before falling asleep beside her.

And ever so faintly I could hear her voice, "I know."

3:00 A.M

My body jerks awake as I heard a deafening scream resonate through the silent house.

I quickly looked to my right, and found my sister gone. Instinctively, I ran towards my father's room to find her there.

Attempting to hush and comfort him. He pushes her away and she flails towards the floor. Grazing her knee in the process.

After seeing her in a brief pained moment, some unknown force dawns on me to pick up a broken piece of glass. My vision blurs red, everything was muffled and numb. A rush of adrenaline, and the next thing I knew, my father laid cold on the floor. His side with the color of crimson seeping his white t-shirt.

My vision slightly blurs and my sister's violent shaking didn't snap me out of my numb senses until she screamed my name.

"Kim Taehyung!" Her eyes wet with tears, "Listen to me, go wash your hands right away. Do you hear me? Go now!"

"U-Unnie.." My voice was small, scared even, I didn't understand what had come over me.

She cups my face and pulls me down towards her eye level, "Taehyung it isn't your fault. Okay? Now go and clean yourself up for me." 

She smiles at me and the next thing I knew I was in the bathroom shower. Once I finished I heard sirens blaring outside of the door.

Quickly, my door opens abruptly and I see my sister being handcuffed before my eyes.

"What are you...." I quickly yanked their hands away and pulled my sister behind me.

"You can't take her away without explanation." I growled, but the policemen shrugged their shoulders.

One of them spoke with an almost too audacious tone, "We are doing what's right, and so is that young lady there."

"What are you saying?" I retort, and he sighs.

"She has admitted to her crime and our job as policemen to take the criminal away." Just as those words escaped his mouth I felt my hands already on his collar.

"Don't you dare speak about her that way!" The other policemen quickly pull my arms away and I rigorously yank it from their grasp.

"Taehyung." My sister spoke softly, "Listen, I did it okay? So don't worry. Everything's alright."

My eyes widened at her monotonous response, "Okay....? You think this-"

She places her fingers, caked with dried blood, on my lips and shakes her head, "Taehyung go live your life okay?"

At those words, silence fell upon my mind. The officers took her away and one last time she looked at me; and gave me one last smile.

How am I supposed to live my life, when I have nothing to live for?
