1 week later...
"Violet come on we need to get to your nans!" my mom shouted up the stairs. I sighed and wandered down, my mom was waiting at the bottom impatiently tapping her nails on the bannister. "I don't want to go and see her mom" I said, "Well tough we have to, we are taking her shopping" my mom answered. I rolled my eyes and climbed in the car, I didn't particularly like my nan much she always compares me to Bella. "Oh Violetta why cant you be as graceful as your sister" that was her favourite line and she always called me Violetta even know she knows I hate it.
Don't get me wrong I love her and stuff she just bugs me but I don't no what I would do without her. She's also the only nan I have I mean she's my moms, mom so basically she's the only one I've known she just a little old fashioned. We pulled up outside her complex and climbed out, mom had a key to get in as she put the key thing against the pad on the door and it opened. "Morning Edna" my mom said to the lady walking up the corridor, "Ahh morning Danica, she might still be asleep they had the doctor in hers yesterday morning" she said. "Oh really?" my mom asked, "Yes, anyway best be going bingo in 10 minutes. Goodbye Danica bye Vanessa" she said toddling up the corridor.
"Vanessa? Why does she always call me Vanessa?" I said as my mom tried not to laugh. "Maybe you look like a Vanessa" she said laughing. I shot her a dirty look as she unlocked my nans front door, something didn't seem right it was too quiet. She normally had the TV blaring or people round but it was eerily quiet, I walked into the front room and saw the cups from yesterday on the table. Normally they would be washed up and put away by now, I heard my mom calling her name as I ran into the bedroom.
My nan was laying still on the bed, her face was a pale grey and she didn't look like she was breathing. "Is she?" I said looking at my mom, she was checking her pulse and stuff willing her to wake up but she didn't. "She's gone Violet, I'm going to call the doctor" she said her face blank as she walked into the front room. I walked over to my nan and touched her hand, it was ice cold. I gasped and pulled my hand away, she looked peaceful like she was just asleep. I struggled to fight the tears back, I had to stay strong for mom. She came into the room, "The doctor will be here within 10 minutes" she said sitting down on the end of the bed.
I put my arms around her as she cried, I felt so bad for her. "Its ok mom, everything will be ok" I said trying to comfort her, within ten minutes the doctor was here and my nan was taken out of the room and loaded into a van. We drove home in silence, no one spoke I knew Bella would know something's up. She may be a bit self absorbed but she's not dumb, she adored her nan and she was going to be crushed. We pulled up outside as we climbed out and headed indoors, "Mom you need to tell Bella" I said.
"I will" she answered faking a smile and headed indoors, Bella came skipping up the hall with her aunt and ran into moms arms. "I heard about the n word" my aunt said, "News travels fast but I need to tell Bella" she whispered. "Ok i'll leave you to it" she said putting her hand on my shoulder as she left. "Look after them" she whispered as I nodded in response. She shut the door behind me as my mom led Bella into the front room, I stood outside and heard the muffled conversation. It was followed by loud crying as I felt my heart break into pieces at my sister crying.
The next day....
We haven't slept all night, mom and Bella have done nothing but cry all night. I headed downstairs to find my mom nowhere, Bella was sitting at the table stirring her cornflakes. "Hey Bella where's mom?" I asked, "She's gone" she said showing me the note my mom had left. "Morning girls, sorry to leave you alone but I need to get away for a few days to clear my head. There's plenty of food and Violet will look after you Bella Love Mom x"
"I cant look after myself let alone a little kid" I said, I grabbed my phone and rung my aunt. I asked her to stay with us, she agreed after I explained. "Who are you ringing?" Bella said, "Auntie tiff, now go get ready for school" I said. "I cant go to school im too tired" she said, "Look Bella if you cant go to school go and sleep or something" I snapped as she headed upstairs. I felt bad for snapping at her, I shouldn't have been such a cow. Why was everything always left to me? My moms gone AWOL, and I don't know how much longer I can be strong enough for them for.
Tear threatened again as I fought them back, the doorbell rang as I went to answer it. My aunt looked round at me as I stepped aside to let her in. "Im sorry about your nan, and your mom going on the run. I cant believe she left you in charge of everything. It must be so hard for you" she said. I nodded in response as she went upstairs to check on Bella, I could hear Bella crying as I put my hands over my ears to try and block it out. I cant do this, I cant stay strong for everyone else when Im falling apart myself.
I ran out of the house and through the woods, I pulled out my phone and saw I had a text.
"I heard about your nan, did you want to stay with me for a few days? " It was Jasmine. "Yes please I cant stay here" I replied as I pulled out a bag.
