Hugging back Odette knew she'd have to tell Felicie about the big secret that night. She was actually looking forward to it which pleasantly surprised her.Not so long ago she had hated children but now mostly due to Felicie and a little due to Victor she enjoyed them.
When Odette and Felicie got back to the attic room Odette pulled a big memory book from a shelf.Calling Felicie over to sit beside her at the table she began turning the pages.
"Your music box is the most precious thing to you, yes?"
Felicie nodded.
"This scrapbook is most precious to me.It has all my memories in it .take a look!"
At first the scrapbook was filled with paintings of unsmiling people but gradually the people began to smile more and more until Felicie came across a family portrait of a mother a father ,her mother and father and a baby girl.A young boy stood not too far off the picture.
"Who were these people Odette? They look like you."
"This is me,my husband,my daughter her fiancée and her two children."
Odettes eyes filled with tears. But she needed Felicie to know.
"Your mom loved dancing because I loved dancing. She is my daughter and you are my grand daughter.I am so pleased to have found you."
Felicie froze.
"No."she whispered."Your not my grand mom!"she yelled and ran out of the room.
Twenty minutes went by before a knock came on the door.
"Come in,come in!"
The door opened to reveal Victor.
"Felicies not here Victor.Shell be on the roof thinking things through. If you want to join her, that is."
Victor was confused.Felicie only went on the roof when she was sad or really happy.
"Excuse me but what is she mad about?"
"Truth is I showed her an old family scrapbook and she recognised me in one of the pictures."
Victor walked to the table where the scrapbook lay open.
"This It?"
Odette nodded and Victor poured over the picture.
"Whose the little boy?"
"Her son.You know when the carriage crashed the only ones not killed were the baby , the little boy and me.But I had too busy a life for children and i took them to an orphanage in Brittany. He was a tinker always playing around with the things in his fathers workshop.""I am an inventor too! This is so crazy!"
"Go and see Felicie.Shes on the roof."
Victor turned and a while later found himself sitting next to Felicie on the roof watching the sunset. They sat in silence for a few minutes but Victor was curious.Very curious.
"So Felicie..what's the matter?"
She shrugged and muttered something Victor couldn't hear.
"If it's nothing how come your up here all sad and grumpy?"
Felicie turned to face Victor.
"I'm scared..of having a family."
Victor looked at her as if she was an alien.
"But you've wanted a family all your life! And now you've got one!Whats wrong with them?"
Felicie pulled her legs up to her chest and hugged her knees.
"I don't know.."she took a deep breath in and turned so that she and Victor were face to face.
"Victor ,the boy in the picture looked just like ...you."she said slowly.Victor nodded.
"Yeah,that's right!It did,didn't it?"
"No one else has your crazy hair. And no one would wear that jacket but you!"Felicie laughed shakily.
"But Felicie, wait. We were delivered at the same time to the orphanage. Why didn't they say we were different ages?"wondered Victor, out loud.
"Do..do you think we may be more than umm..."
"You mean do I think we could be brother and sister?Maybe. But how can we know for sure?"asked Victor working up a plan in his head.Felicie watched him smiling.
"We could go back to the orphanage. And look in the files. They've gotta have something!"
Felicie nodded. She stood up and dusted herself down. She grinned at Victor.
