Cabaletta look at her flute, which sat on her leg. She had been practicing hard to earn the solo and was now at the time where the band directors would choose who got it. She felt her heart beat like a fast tempo. Her mind was racing. Thoughts of how she could've played better, how everyone else played, and how the flute players were being ranked. She heard footsteps and looked up at the stage. On it was the flute teacher, Mrs. Beardy. She scanned the crowd and cleared her throat. Cabaletta felt her heart skip a beat as the room went quiet. "I have made my decision of which flutist will get the solo. The lucky player is,"she paused to read the card,"Cabaletta!" She looked at the young girl with a smile. Cabaletta jumped up and let out a joy filled scream. She heard happy clapping all around her, but something felt wrong. She turned around and saw a young boy named Brian glaring at her. She felt goosebumps on her arms and turned to walk to the stage to get her sheet music. Mrs. Beardy gave it to her." Congratulations, Mrs. Liron," she said nicely. Cabaletta nodded and went to sit down. She couldn't wait to tell her parents. She felt something grab her chair and turned to see her friend Aika. Aika smiled and hugged Cabaletta by the neck. Cabaletta struggled out of the embrace and laughed. "What's up, Aika? You seem pretty happy to not get the part," I said while playfully giving her a punch on the arm. "Oh, I didn't want it! Too much pressure," Aika responded. She was holding a pencil and had a sketch pad on her lap. Cabaletta also loved to draw, but left her book in her backpack. Around them, kids were leaving the room. Cabaletta jumped up realizing she wasn't listening and missed the dismissal. She quickly put her flute in its case and grabbed her backpack from the back of her chair. She ran out of the room and to her next class.
