At school, Cabaletta felt paranoid. She kept glancing around, making sure her father wasn't anywhere near her. She decided to live with Aika. Her friends mom had said that she could stay for as long as she liked, not asking why. She went to her band class and sat down. She held her flute on her leg as Mrs. Beardy walked into the room. "Okay," she said, her loud voice traveling across the room," get out your music for the concert." For the next hour, they all practiced. On the way to Aika's house, Cabaletta saw a tall man. She couldn't see his face because it was dark out." Hey, go ahead, I'll catch up," she told Aika, who nodded and kept going. Cabaletta stopped and stared at the man, trying her hardest to see his features. She looked both ways down the quiet street. Then, slowly, she started walking towards the man. She would usually avoid strangers, but something about him drew her in. As she got closer, she felt a calm wash over her. She reached out a hand to tap him on the shoulder, but something black grabbed at her waist and pulled her back. Her hands and legs flew horizontally as she felt the air flow past her. She felt the hard stone of a wall as she hit one. The man turned, making her vision blurry. He had no face, just white skin in the shape of a face. Cabaletta let out a scream and the man disappeared. She grabbed her backpack and ran. She ran straight to Aika's and quickly opened the door. She slammed it and ran to Aika's room, ignoring Mrs. Orion's attempt to greet her. She jumped onto Aika's bed and took out her sketch pad and pencil. She started to sketch the man, and the tentacles that had came out of him. He was very slender and tall. She kept drawing, even after Aika came back into the room. "What are you draw-" she stopped. She stared at the picture, then walked over to a drawer. She opened it and there were many pictures of the same man. "I've seen him before. Around you," she said quietly,"he's been here for a while. He follows you." She stared at Cabaletta, who stared back. They had to figure out who this man was.
