There's a few different types of covers, so imma tell you how I made this one.
Start with your standard template, then go to "draw." Making sure your color is set to black, go to your shape tool (the one that looks like a square and a circle, 3rd from right) and select the square tool. Make sure "fill" is selected and not "stroke," or else you'll only get an outline.

Position the box so it takes up most of the white, but leave enough space to place your title on. Make sure you get it right the first time, because you can't reposition the box later. You'll have to hit the undo button and try again.

Now, to get the white ball in the center, download a fireball transparent. (A transparent is an image that doesn't have a background.) Go to "effects."

Here, scroll almost to the end of the effects and select "black and white blur." Hit the checkmark, position it on the black part of your cover, then save.

To get the outline effect, I just made my text color white and gave it a thin black stroke. However, you can also give text an outline by giving it a stroke and lowering the text color opacity to 0. (labelled under "Alpha" below)
