{play song}
On the way to the hospital, Justin turned the radio on.
-
"This next song goes out to anybody in need of some love right now," the man on the radio spoke.
-
Then I heard the soft strum of an acoustic guitar and the slow beats of a drum. I immediately knew what song it was.
-
We were at a red light when the song came on. Justin turned and looked at me.
-
"Maddi..." he said with tears in his eyes.
-
"I know...I know," I whispered. The song reminded us both of the night we first met.
-
Justin's mom is my mom's best friend. She was her maid of honor at my mom and stepdad's wedding. She brought Justin, Danny, and Damon with her. This was my mom and stepdad's "first dance" song. My mom wanted Blake and I on the dance floor with her, so Blake asked another girl to dance with him.
-
I didn't know who to ask, so Justin said he would dance with me. That was the night Justin Drew Blake became my best friend; we were thirteen. Listening to the song brought back so many memories of the two of us; two strangers slow dancing together like we'd been in love for thirteen years. We stood outside under the night sky and sparkling white lanterns, slow dancing as if the world depended on it. Listening to the song now felt the same; as if the world depended on the two of us being together.
-
The song was called "From the Ground Up," by Dan and Shay.
-
We sat in the car singing along to the song, pouring our hearts out into the lyrics.
-
"Grandma and Grandpa painted a picture of sixty-five years
And one little house
More than a memory
More than saying I do
Kiss you goodnight's and I love you's
Me and you baby, walk in the footsteps
Build our own family
One day at a time
Ten little toes, a painted pink room
Our beautiful baby looks just like you
And we'll build this love from the ground up..."

I'm so sorry I haven't been updating, yikes. For a while I was really busy with lots of stuff (homework, essays, projects, etc.) and I didn't really have time to write. Recently I've just had no motivation to write. I honestly had no idea what to write at all. Then I heard "From the Ground Up," and I thought of this idea. I honestly love this song so much; it gives me all types of emotions that I didn't know I could feel at this age It confuses me, but I love it. anyway, as always comment what you think about this chapter and let me know how I can improve! love you all, xoxo💕
