"Please don't leave me. I love you,"

[Reader's POV]
Everything moved in slow motion as the car swerved to the left to avoid the drunk driver going in the wrong direction. My best friend Philip and I screamed as the car lost traction on the ice and hit a tree. Then everything went black.

I couldn't see a thing, I couldn't move. I could hear things though. I heard Philip freaking out because I wasn't moving. I heard another driver knock on the window and I heard them call an ambulance. I heard the paramedics arrive and eventually I heard the endless beeping of the heart monitor that I was hooked to.

I could hear the sobs of my mother as she saw me, the cries of Philip's mother Eliza, as she was like a second mother to me. I heard the quiet sniffles of my father and Mr. Hamilton. I heard my little brother ask when I would wake up to play. I heard everyone ask the doctor if I would make it.

I heard the doctor tell them it was unlikely that I would make it past three weeks. It's scary knowing you'll die.

I could feel my inner thoughts giving up. Telling me that it was inevitable. Telling me that everyone is going to lose me because of a drunk driver. Because of the sheet of ice lining the streets. Because I wanted to spend the weekend with him. Philip.

His sobs were the loudest. His demand for an answer from the doctor was the most persistent. His voice stayed when no one else did. He talked to me, instead of at me like everyone else did.

I longed to wipe his tears and look him in the eye. I can't do a damned thing, because I'm stuck in a prison of my own body.

"This is my fault," He choked between sobs, "Please don't leave me. I love you,"

My heartbeat monitor went berserk. I heard the doctors rush in and push Philip out. It sounded like was fighting to stay, but he had to watch from a window as doctors surrounded me.

A white light blinded me as the heartbeat monitor settled. I breathed heavily and tried to sit up. The doctors held me down. I pulled the oxygen mask off my face and looked around as my eyes adjusted to the light.

I heard someone barge through the door, and for the first time in weeks I saw him.

"Philip?" I asked.

"(Y/n)!" He nearly yelled as he ran to me and hugged me. I hugged back, never wanting to let go.

"I love you too,"
