"Can I kiss you?"

[Reader's POV]

Another one of James' meeting left me to be quiet upstairs, as to not disturb them. As far as I know, he was with Aaron Burr, who I've had a few talks with before in the town, and Thomas Jefferson, who my brother says is a nice man. I may talk to him.

Until then I just sit in the painting room, painting a small plant on a table just beyond the canvas.

As I start working on smaller details, I hear the door open behind me. An unfamiliar voice strikes a conversation.

"You must be Miss Madison," He says, his voice soft like the petals budding on the plant in my painting. I turn around to see Mr. Jefferson standing in the doorway.

"You must be Mr. Jefferson," I curtsy, "Please, come in," I dunk the paintbrush into the jar of muggy water and wipe my hands on the skirt of my painting dress. It's covered in paint stains of all colors. I look down at my skirt and back at him. He chuckles.

"I see you like to paint," He says, looking at the painting. I suddenly lose all my confidence in that painting.

"I paint sometimes, usually when James has meetings downstairs," I blush a bit and look at my shoes, which also have some paint on them from when paint dripped off of the brush, "This painting isn't my best,"

"Nonsense. I see that you were painting that plant over there and it looks very nice," He says, "Just like you,"

My head shoots up and I look at him, blushing beyond hiding. He sports a small smirk and a raised eyebrow.
"W-what?" I stammer and tense up.

"Your brother told me you were nothing special, but he couldn't be more wrong," He takes a few steps towards me until I'm pinned against the wall, "Can I kiss you?"

I stare into his eyes, flushed and confused. I subtly nod my head and he plants a soft kiss on my lips. It lasts longer than I expected and he wraps his arms around my waist. I wrap my arms around his neck and give in to his charm.

"I see you've met my sister,"
