Legolas was just beginning to wake up. He opened his eyes a crack and groaned when light flooded in. It seemed so bright...and his head hurt so much. When his vision cleared, Legolas realized what had happened. He sighed dejectedly and sat up.
Aragorn walked over to him. "They plan on accompanying us to find the Orcs." He said, then whispered in his ear, "I don't think they believed my 'mother is kidnapped' story."
"Well okay then...if we get into a bigger mess, then it's your fault." Legolas whispered jokingly.
Aragorn rolled his eyes. "Whatever."
Legolas slowly stood up and was starting to walk when the man who hit him came over, "We can't have you two running off into the forest...so you'll stay here," he pointed to Legolas, "while he goes and finds his mommy." The guy smirked cockily. "Boss says for me to stay with you." Legolas looked to Aragorn for help. He did not want to be separated at all.
Aragorn looked at the man, "He is my companion and we work best together when fighting." Aragorn said. "Against Orcs." He added quickly, realizing how that sounded.
The man looked to his boss for orders. The leader answered, "That's nice...I don't really care. He'll stay here and you'll go. It's as simple as that. Any more questions?"
Aragorn shrugged slightly. "When do we leave?" He asked.
"Let's go now." The leader motioned to the man by Legolas. As they were leaving, Aragorn caught a glimpse of Legolas being bound to a tree in the clearing, none too gently. Aragorn's mouth tightened into a grim line. Legolas caught his expression and sent him a reassuring nod to let the ranger know he would be okay.
Aragorn nodded back and then asked the man in charge, "Do I at least get my weapons back? I can't fight Orcs with my bare hands."
The leader gestured to one of his men who hurried and grabbed Aragorn's weapons. The man handed them over and they left. Aragorn studied the Orc's tracks. He guessed that they were about a day old. The leader, Karock, huffed impatiently, "How long is this gonna take?"
"I'm not sure. Probably a day or so." Aragorn explained.
"Good grief." Karock huffed. "Well, hurry up. I have other things to do."
Aragorn rolled his eyes. These people definitely didn't know how to track. If he was on his own, it would be easier to catch the Orcs. Aragorn guessed that the Orcs would hear them coming with the noise his group was making. "Well then why are you here?" He asked the man.
"To make sure you are telling the truth about your story." Karock reasoned. "Your story doesn't seem quite viable..." He paused, "and if you were lying, I'll kill your elf friend."
"Well why else would I be tracking these Orcs?" Aragorn asked impatiently. He realized that he would have to get out of this group soon. This lie wasn't going to last forever. He could sneak out, turn around, and go back for Legolas.
"Just shut it and keep tracking." Karock ordered. He turned to one of his men, "Go back to camp and give the elf a present." He grinned wickedly before turning to speak to Aragorn, "Because of your attitude, your friend is gonna get a present from me. Do anything I don't like again and I'll do worse. Got it?"
Aragorn looked down at the tracks again. If he escaped, the men would send a man to kill Legolas. So he would escape and then try to out run a man on a horse. Aragorn grimaced. His prospects were not looking promising.
