Spending one-on-one time with Beckett and Orion on perimeter check wasn't the worst thing I'd gotten myself into. Sure, it wasn't stupendously fun, not like when I checked the borders with Cass, who always had something fun to talk about, but it was decent enough that when we got back to base and Orion asked if I'd go out with them again, I said yes.

It wasn't until later when I was in bed that night that the whole "go out" concept smacked me in the fucking face. They obviously tricked me into that. I mean, the initial suggestion that we go out to check the perimeter together was my idea, but it was still their fault.

"Carter really saved up all of this stuff for when he escaped?" Demi was asking me from the front seat of the Jeep Carter had given us to escape, holding three boxes of ammo and sifting through whatever else was in the divider.

"I guess," I was sitting in the back seat, looking through a box of food I'd pulled out from under the seat, "He didn't say much about it, just told me there was a car filled with supplies and to get away. I could tell he'd been planning to run, but...," I shrugged, "I don't know how long he'd been saving this stuff, or even why he wanted to run, or where he would go. I told him if he ever got out to come find the rebellion, that we would help him, so I'm sure he'll be fine."

Demi looked up at me, "Does Carter even know where we are? I mean, we're so secretive, the only people who actually know where we're located are the members of the rebellion."

"And Fer-de-Lance," I winced, "It's weird they haven't attacked again."

"They're likely watching us," Demi hummed, staring out one of the open doors towards the mountains that surrounded us, shaking his head before returning his attention to the divider, "Never mind. Does he know where we are?"

"I... don't know," I admitted finally, "I mean, I assume he knows, if he's Florian's insider I'm sure they've discussed the rebellion."

"Hm," Demi propped his elbow against the seat, setting his head in his hand, "I don't know how I feel about that guy."

"You mean Tobias?" I snorted, "Why? Guy's harmless," I paused, frowning, "Is it some kind of assassin sixth sense? Is he secretly working for the enemy?"

"What? No, I doubt it. I think I'm mainly bias because it hurt like hell when he broke the collar off. Plus, he kind of annoyed me. Though I don't really know him myself, he could be a decent man."

"Yea, he's a pretty cool guy," I smiled, "Kailas likes him too. You can trust him."

Demi sighed when I mentioned Kailas, dropping his head, "Fine, fine."

I snickered at him, a teasing remark on my tongue, but it turned into a curse when I accidentally knocked over the box of canned foods, "Ah fuck, that's great," I huffed, bending over to grab the food and return it into the cardboard box, "You know I'm sure Carter won't mind if we bring this stuff in to our storage area," I noted, holding up a jar and wrinkling my nose as Demi answered me.

"I suppose it wouldn't hurt. He's got a lot of extra ammo in here too."

I held up the jar, "Can I interest you in some tradition Welsh pickled cockles?"

"Fuck off," Demi squinted at me, and I laughed before setting the jar in the box and leaned over the backseat to grab the other cans.

I reached under the back of the driver's seat, frowning as my fingers hit something soft like fabric, grunting as I leaned further to get a good grip on it, "Hey, I think I found something else. A bag."

"Is there a body in it?" Demi asked, and I gave him a wide-eyed look.

"You have a dark sense of humor."
