A/N: set in the pilot universe not long after their first case because pilot John and Sherlock wouldn't still be dancing around each other. Also thanks for the prompt Fhhin360

Running and chasing and it was all quite mad but they loved it and their feat slapped at the floor and the wind blew at their hair and tangled it so that no comb could pass through easily.

But it was John and Sherlock and it was just what they were, they wore dainty clothes but they were rough and hard wearing people in delicate skins.

They were running after a murderer who had killed his supposedly best friend because he had beat him in a gambling game, jealousy and spite and the man was found with a gold coin pressed through his forehead, Sherlock deduced it was hammered in after death due to the slight indentation on the side of the coin.

The man was actually forced to drink acid and it burned his throat from the inside out but the murderer hadn't been clever enough and had left clues of his whereabouts, discarded napkin with his initials that he'd used to wipe the blood from his hands, DNA on the coin and hammer and footprints indicating his height, his stride, and his foot size.

So here they were running down back alleys and dirty paths and when they caught up with the man, John pulled his gun out as a threat to the man and the man swung round at Sherlock who dodged him effectively leaning his head quickly backwards and swerving his body from the mans fist. John threatened to shoot him unless he calmed down and Sherlock tried to pin him down to the floor.

The man was pinned down efficiently with Sherlock holding him firmly but the man was quick and strong and managed to connect his fist to Sherlocks face causing Sherlocks nose to bleed and he had to spit blood from his mouth.

John used the butt of his gun and knocked the man unconscious by whipping it across the back of the mans head, Sherlock stumbled away from the man after handcuffing him to a solid pipe coming out the ground.

John rushed to Sherlocks side, tucking the pistol in his belt and using his hands to gently tilt Sherlocks face so that he could see the damage. John searched around himself before using a tissue in his pocket from the rushed dinner they'd had on a stake out.

He held the tissue up to Sherlocks nose and made Sherlock tilt his head back, supporting his neck with his palm, his fingers tangling ever so slightly in the curls at his nape.

Sherlock let John tend to him and check him over, muttering angrily when he saw that one of Sherlocks teeth seemed slightly out of alignment and his lip was bleeding from the impact of the mans fist against his nose and mouth. Once the police arrived with Lestrade, John began to lead Sherlock out of the alley.

Sherlock tried to protest but John drifted his hand from Sherlocks shoulder down to the small of his back making Sherlock gasp as John steered him away from the murderer and to the main road so they could catch a cab.

Once they were in the back of a cab, John continued to care for Sherlock on the way to their flat, holding his head in his hands and checking if his nose was broken, which it luckily wasn't.

John took Sherlock home first where he could fix him up in the comfort of his own living room. Sherlock wasn't keen on doctors but he trusted John.
