The scene around me shifted into the woods. The voice of Professor Connell filled the area. "I will ask you to perform a series of survival skills. There should be a few tools you can use somewhere in the woods-- their locations will be associated with the things you have learned in the classroom." The woods glistened as if it was a paradise. "Build a fire." A modified voice boomed; "Begin." I began to run through the woods, in search for supplies. If I had an axe, then I would be able to create more wood for a fire and a shelter, but I guess I have to find one first. I began to think, slowing down. Where would an axe be?
I reach an area that is plain, with nothing but grass. In the enter, is a mixture of rocks and boulders. Maybe the axe was here? I began to search around the boulder. Nothing. I decided to climb it.
The huge pile of boulders and rocks was quite steep. It's structure was surely unstable, the boulders pressed against each other, looking as if they were to collapse at any time.
Based on the poor structure, I decided to jump down before I began to climb and find something that could make my climb safer.
Maybe a rope? No, I couldn't secure it at the top. There wasn't any materials around like that anyway.
I continued to study the structure. It truly did look unstable, but there were what seemed to be five strong boulders at the base. I pulled one towards me, it wouldn't budge. I tried the second, which happened to be the largest boulder, and I managed to pull it out without causing the structure to collapse.
I climbed atop it, suddenly remembering a lesson learned.
We were playing a game where we pulled out pieces of a tall structure from the bottom to top, and had to make sure it did not collapse. It was practically like Jenga, but the pieces were not rectangular prisms; but a mixture of different shapes, like the boulder pile.
I pulled out a smaller boulder, but steeper than the last. Pushing it to the side, I created the second step of my 'spiral staircase', continuing to do this method until I reached the top.
There was nothing at the top, but there was something engraved. "(39, 20)." I murmured.
I began to think back to the classroom, what did we do with ordered pairs? Graphing! "These are coordinates." I said to myself. Immediately, glowing lines, both longitude and latitude, along with numbers appeared on the ground. I am supposed to get to the coordinates.
I carefully began to walk down, and when I reached solid ground, I began to run.
Following the coordinates, I navigated my way through the forest.
Finally, I reached a stump, an axe implanted to the center. I yanked at the handle, causing it to fly out, nearly slicing off my ear and hitting the tree behind me.
Idiot.
Carefully, I took the axe from the tree and jogged back to where I was before.
Facing the nearest tree, a thin one, about three inches thick. I let out a deep breath and slammed the axe into the wood. A small cut.
I hate being weak.
I continued, my arms aching until the tree fell by itself. I chopped it up into several pieces, positioning them in such a way to begin a fire.
Building a fire is not easy.
It took me several minutes to start seeing the smoke curling up and rising up. Finally, a bright flame ignited. I fanned it until it got higher and higher.
I heard the bell go off, and the fantasy faded. I stood several feet from the other initiates.
"Congratulations, Alana Easton. You are the first to complete the task."
I'm in Vivam for sure.
