Chapter Four
Preston's buzzing with excitement when he comes home four days later with a ring in his pocket. His wedding ring, to be specific.
He knows it was impulsive, but he needed this. He needs things to go back to how they were before. He needs to feel like himself again. Maybe who Preston was is gone, but he'll hope and wish and dream that the lurking thought in his mind is all it is. Just a thought, something he's made up. It not true.
It's been four years since he was diagnosed as bipolar. Four years that's he's spent feeling utterly lost. And he can't feel this way any longer. He wants to fix it and being with them - his family is just the way to do that.. the least he could do is at least try.
Preston, standing right outside the front door is unaware that Lachlan is on the other side. That's why the two of them collide as Lachlan goes to step outside and Preston goes to step inside.
"Jesus Fuck," Lachlan steps backward, head smacking into the door he was just closing.
"You ever heard of a fucking doorbell, why the fuck–" He adjusts his cheap ass glasses that were knocked lopsided. Once he realizes it's Preston who just ran into him, his eyes widen. Preston can't tell if he's annoyed or relieved to see him.
"Now I'm just confused. What are you even doing here?"
Preston frowns. "I live here-"
"I thought you ran off to Utah," Lachlan says and Preston getting the message loud and clear. He's annoyed to see him.
"No.. I texted you."
"You texted me 'I'm O.K' with a heart emoji.. what exactly am I supposed to get from that to know you'd be back?"
"I wanted to get something."
"In Utah?" Lachlan asked, sounding skeptical.
"Yup."
Lachlan stared at him for a second, then shook his head. "Well, then what did you get?" He chuckled a little bit as he spoke.
"It can wait until later, I want to know about you. Why are you in a suit?"
"I've got a job interview." Lachlan smiled proudly, adjusting his suit jacket in a confident manner. "Speaking of, I'm going to be late if I don't get going. I'm glad to see you, but I've got to go."
"I'll walk you," Preston said a little too quickly, stepping in front of Lachlan to stop his stride.
"You'll... walk me?" Lachlan's brows furrow. "Didn't know I was five and need my mommy to walk me to the bus stop."
"I haven't seen you in four days, I miss you."
"Ah, so we have one serious talk, I jerk you off, and we're all good?"
"I- I don't have to walk with you," Preston stutters, cheeks growing hot. "I just- I thought it would be like the old days."
"You never walked with me to the bus stop.." Lachlan retorts.
"Oh, yeah. I guess I haven't-"
"Preston, Nike."
"What about Nike?"
