Chapter Nine
Preston stood at the gate, tapping his foot impatiently. He glanced up at the clock, which said it was a quarter past one. The plane was supposed to have taken off fifteen minutes ago, and there was no word about boarding.
"What is the holdup?" Lachlan wondered, walking up to Preston to hand him a granola bar.
"Pilot's probably getting a few extra snoozes."
"Don't blame him."
Preston shifted his weight, yawning. "Just wish it wasn't so late."
"You're the one who didn't tell me about Stanford until so late!" Lachlan exclaimed.
"Didn't want to upset you."
"There's barely anything you can do to upset me. You're the smartest person I know, and I'm not saying that because I'm biased. I am upset with Stanford, not you. It's not your fault they're assholes."
"Thanks for the flattery, but I'm not that smart."
"You got into Stanford once upon a time, you're pretty damn smart."
After another ten minutes, a voice over the intercom notified them that their flight was now boarding.
Lachlan sighed, reaching his arm out for Preston. "Shall we?"
"Shall we what?"
"Shall we board our flight, Mr. Gallagher?"
"Ah, I see." Preston takes Lachlan's hand. "Yes, let us go to California!"
Preston didn't know Lachlan's never been on a plane. He was completely terrified. Although, he may still of been having a heart attack from how much the tickets costed.
Once they arrived, and Preston woke Lachlan from his sleep. He explained that they were at the San Fransisco International Airport, Silicon Valley is 35 miles away. They could get a hotel somewhere around there and sleep for a couple hours before going to the Financial Aid.
They decided instead of getting a hotel right this minute to look around San Francisco because Lachlan's never been and may never have the opportunity to again.
"This would be great if I wasn't so tired."
Preston smiled, "We'll get some coffee... maybe multiple cups each."
After getting their much needed caffeine they took a lyft to Baker's Beach which was about thirty minutes away. In hindsight they should've taken the muni, it would've been cheaper. It would take a while, but the cheaper the better.
"It's so warm," Lachlan muttered quietly, tugging his jacket off.
"I told you not to wear a jacket."
"Fuck off they're comfy."
No one was at the beach. They both thought it was surprising. It was five in the morning and the sun had just started to rise. You've got a beach with a nice view of the bridge, Preston thought everyone would try to be here early to beat everyone else.
"Can I have your jacket?" Preston asked.
"Why?"
"To sit on it."
"So I get sand all up my ass? Nope, get your own." Lachlan pulls his jacket closer to him.
"I sit on one arm, you sit on the other?" Preston negotiates.
