Chapter Eleven

Monday morning found Preston lying in bed, too tired to move. He was the one who had to make sure Ruby got to daycare today but he couldn't bring himself to sit up. His muscles felt like lead, and his eyes couldn't decide whether they wanted to be opened or closed - both options seemed equally painful. He summed up enough energy to text Mitch, who was right down the hall, to let him know he should take Ruby to daycare. After that he spent most of the day staring at the ceiling and drifting in and out of consciousness.

He hoped that by Tuesday morning he'd be able to get up because Vikk invited him over, but no such luck. So instead he spent the following night in a sort of trance state, and didn't know it was morning until he heard Lachlan's alarm and him rustling around, practically falling off the bed in order to turn it off.

He didn't even consider moving, hoping that Lachlan would assume he was asleep and get ready for work, but Preston forgot to even act like he was asleep.

"Jerome and Mitch are moving to their new place this weekend so you better get better because I'm not moving their furniture all by myself," Lachlan said as he started to get dressed.

"Fuck off," Preston said without even thinking, rolling over so he was facing the wall.

"Jerome's bed is fucking heavy, I can't move it by myself. I'll break my back, I'm old."

"Okay mid life crisis man," Preston mutters.

Lachlan said nothing and silence fell over the house as he got ready for work.

Eventually time ticked by and Preston realized Lachlan should've left for work and hour ago yet he's still here and casually talking to Alfie.
He wanted to get up and asked why he was still here but the case for staying in bed was winning.

The seconds turned in to minutes which turned into an hour, and Lachlan is returning, but Preston never even knew he was gone.

Preston's eyes dart up as Lachlan steps inside his room and Preston realizes he's not even dressed for work. Is it not Wednesday? Has he been in bed all week?

His eyes follow Lachlan gets into bed with him. They stare at each other for a moment. "Why are you here?"

"I'm taking the day off work."

"Why?"

"It's your first depressive episode in months, I think I should be here with you."

"I'm fine," Preston says.

Lachlan nods. "You're right, you are fine. That's doesn't mean I can't help."

Preston smiles weakly and bows his head. "What do you have in mind?"

"I was thinking of having a movie marathon."

"I don't think I'm going to move from this bed."

"That's alright, I've got a plan." Lachlan says, smiling.

Lachlan's plan was to completely unhook the tv from the living room and bring it upstairs. It sounded like an easy job, but it weighed like seventy pounds and had random cords hanging from it. He's surprised he actually got it upstairs to their room. That when it registered that he had no clue where an outlet was to plug in the tv. That took a half an hour in itself. Moving the dvd player upstairs was the easiest part.
