The Summonings

Chapter 4: (doggvers.) The Crystal.

Anguis had made her way over to where Nix and Desidia sat. Nix's orange ears twitched and turned at every step that Anguis took while walking. Once she had gotten there and sat next to Desidia, Nix had made a series of short clicking noises and turned her head towards Anguis. Anguis's purple eyes meeting Nix's blind orange and purple ones. A moment of silence followed after Anguis's arrival and Desidia was the first one to speak. "Well I dont think you've got anything special to say?" she asked as she turnt her head towards Anguis's direction. "Nothing at all," Anguis said with a frown. Nix turnt around and made a few softer clicks before walking towards the blank wall with the open doorway. Once she had dissapeared through the doorway the two Dogg heard her yell "C'MON!" as she stuck her head out and barked. Desidia and Anguis both ran to the doorway and squeezed themselves inside.
Inside narrow and long ıuБɹəpıɐuʇs room, the walls where lined with various plants, animal, gemstones, and other odd things sat all neatly organized in glass and clay jars. The only light source in the room came from the odd glowing objects coming from the glass jars. At the end of the narrow room stood Nix and Desidia, both facing towards her and looking straight, waiting. Anguis did her best to avoid bumping into anything, but her tail accidentaly knocked over a brown clay jar containing pale yellow juice with apple slices in it. Anguis attempted to turn around but with the narrowness of the walls woudnt let her turn around. Nix, having heard it said "just leave it i'll fix it when we come back," and closed her eyes before opening them. Her orange and purple eyes now glowing brightly. Anguis craned her head around to look at the clay jar as its contents began to go back into the jar and the jar itself floating back where it had been originally. "Now, COME ON!" Desidia roared as she slammed her snakes tail down on the marble floor. Anguis now startled, ran towards the two as fast as the walls would let her. Nix then sighed before turning her front half towards the wall and rose up on her hind legs. She held her front legs out and spread her claws wide. The wall at the end of the room was empty of shelves and ingredients-she then slammed her white claws down on the wall. Immediately at the touch of claws on stone walls, the stone began to move and opened up a stairway leading up. Nix then turnt fully around towards the stairway and began to walk up it. Desidia stared up amazed and began to follow after her rather quickly. "King Ebur said it himself, Serppanus where not allowed to create their own entrances and exits without his permission," Anguis heard Desidia say as she climbed the stairs. "or unless you specifically work in that general area," Desidia added. "what King Ebur doesnt know wont hurt him. " Nix said with a hiss as all three dogg saw the light of day infront of them. Both Desidia and Anguis snarled as the sunlight hit their eyes. Nix didnt notice the twos pain, or just didnt care as she strolled up the last step and made contact with the green grass . Desidia held a crimson red wing over her and Anguis's head as she followed Nix through the grey-brown trees and dark green plants. Anguis sniffed the air and smelt a faint hint of blood. "Hey Nix, what was it you needed us for again?" She asked as the smell of blood began to get stronger and stronger every step they took. Then her eyes landed on it. The torn and mangled body of it.
An Avioran.
Anguis hissed through her teeth as the smell of blood and death surrounded the large creature. Its big light brown body lay at an awkward and painful angle. The feathers on its fuschia wings plucked off and strewn around it. The tail was missing along with its head, both being cruely ripped off from it. Nix was the first to speak "how much damage had been done?" she asked as she turned blindly towards the two. "Well, its missing its head and tail, and its at an awkward angle with the feathers round it and all." Desidia said as she walked towards the body and looked at it closely. "Seems fresh too." Anguis added as she sniffed the air and smelled an odd scent. It smelt like nothing else in the forest. "Rouges," Anguis snarled as she looked at the trees around her. Desidia stepped back from the body and she too looked at the trees. Nix stayed where she was and sniffed the air. "They where just here," she mumbled. "what are they doing so close to the burrows?" asked Anguis as she focused her attention on the Aviorans corpse. "Don't know, lets just take this guy back," Nix said as she took the back legs of the light brown and fuschia colored Avioran in her mouth and began to drag it. She took a few stops towards the stairs and cursed. "its not gonna fit through the ingrediants room. Anguis, use your wings for a bit. Me and Desidia will go down and take it to the potions room and you can come down the stairway," she said as she nodded for Desidia to grab the Aviorans front legs. Anguis spread her wings wide out which cast a large shadow beneath the membrane. Nix dragged the body towards the shadow beneath Anguis's wings and was followed by Desidia holding the front half. Both of the Doggs eyes began to glow as they stepped into the shadows, falling in completely and taking the Aviorans body with them. Once Anguis saw the tip of Desidias tail dissapear she closed and folded her wings by her sides and walked towards the stairway and began to walk down it. The sunlight already making her nauseous. Her eyes began to glow as she felt the entrance of the stairway close behind her as she climbed deeper and deeper into the groun before seeing the familiar gloomy glow of the ingrediants room. She began to walk down the narrow hallway when something caught her eye. Without a glass jar or clay bowl to hold it, the thing seemed to be all alone. It was a crystal. Anguis curled her claws in debate. Pondering over what she should do until she heard Nix's voice call out from the potions room. "Anguis, you here yet?" she heard Nix ask. Anguis sighed and reached out with her paw and grabbed the crystal and closed her eyes as they began to glow. She concentrated on the crystal sitting safely under her nest of furs in her den. She opened her eyes as she glow in them resided and the crystal was now gone. She resumed walking to the potions room where she saw Nix sitting at the table, a vine full of cloudy white berries in her mouth as she carefully observed a piece of paper infront of her. Nix looked up from her paper to Anguis and set the vine down next to the paper. "We brought the Avioran to the King and complained to him. Desidia already went to her den, you should too," she said. Anguis nodded and left the potions room. She ducked under the white Avioran fur of the entrance of the room and left. She turned the corner onto the main hallway and swore she saw white scales in the shadows of the torch lighted room. She shrugged it off and turned onto the familiar tunnel her den was located in. She walked the narrow tunnel until she reached the Avioran furred entrance to her den. She ducked under it and her eyes where met with the darkness of the cave room. She walked forward to her nest of fur and plopped down onto it. She lay her head on her paws and she reached her tail under the furs and felt the coolness of the crystal in her tail and sighed in relief. She looked out into the murky black darkness of her den that slowly lulled her into a deep sleep.
