All this money can't buy me a time machine
Can't replace you with a million rings
I should've told you what you meant to me
'Cause now I pay the price
In another life
I would be your girl
We'd keep all our promises
Be us against the world
In another life
I would make you stay
So I don't have to say
You were the one that got away
The One That Got Away- Katy Perry

Caitlin woke up with a strange feeling in her chest, specifically her heart. She wasn't quite sure what it was but it felt like her heart was suffocating in her chest. Trying to ignore it, she quickly dressed and rushed down the stairs and popped some toast in the toaster.
As she waited she heard the phone ring then her mother would decline the call then it would ring again. Whoever was calling was not giving up. Sighing, Caitlin grabbed the toast from the toaster, buttered it then ran back up to her room to eat it, she really needed the peace and quiet.
Hours passed and still, the phone was continually ringing. Carla had gone out for lunch with a bunch of her rich snobby friends and it was Caitlin's father's day off so he was home all day with his broken-hearted daughter.
Despite the fact that he just wanted his daughter to be happy, he couldn't possibly face the wrath of his wife. Carla Snow was stuck in her ways of living in the lap of luxury and nothing would stop her from getting more money. She wasn't the same woman that he had fallen in love with twenty-five years ago.
The phone rang again in the distance and this time he couldn't help it. He knew that Nora Allen had been calling all day and although Carla had specifically instructed him not to answer it while she was gone, he knew that Nora would not be calling this incessantly if there wasn't a good reason to so he answered the phone.
...
Meanwhile, Caitlin was working on a math assignment absent-mindedly, trying to stop the pain in her heart that was telling her that something was really wrong.
A loud stampede of footsteps ran up the stairs and she could only assume that it was her father. But why he was running up the stairs at such a pace was a mystery to her.
"Caitlin, there's something I need toy tell you," he stated softly as he walked into her room and sat beside her on her bed with an empathetic expression.
"What is it?" she replied worriedly, her heart beating faster as panic started to rise in her body.
"It's Barry. Last night, he was involved in a car accident. He's alive but in a coma," he spoke softly.
As soon as Barry's name was mentioned, Caitlin's heart stopped. The news broke her inside and explained the pain in her heart she'd been feeling all morning. Tears fell from her face at a rapid rate and loud sobs filled the silence between them and her father held her to soothe her even though that it wouldn't help a great deal.
"I know this is the last thing you want to hear right now but your mother won't let you see him. I'll try but I can't guarantee anything. I'll leave you alone," he stated then left the room.
Caitlin collapsed into her pillow in misery, her heart heavy with pain and sorrow and her eyes red raw from the tears that were violently falling. How could this of happened?
Why doesn't anything ever go right for her and Barry? All they ever wanted was to be together and the universe couldn't even grant them that.
How was she supposed to believe that there was a future for them when the world kept on forcing them apart? Was this some kind of a sick joke? That someone all the way up their was laughing at them and got a little kick out of ruining people's loves and lives.
