Chapter 1

*Haven's POV*
I retraced the memories of my house. Through the friends we had done everything with, to the bickers Chase and I shared from the moment I could speak. I had been born here, but now we were moving across the US. Being 15, almost 16 was the worst part. In Arizona, I had tons of friends, a great education, I was excellent at sports. I loved my life, and I didn't want it to change. It all began when my dad got that daft, ludicrous job of his. My judgments were interrupted when my mom hollered for me to come downstairs. "Haven, c'mon we're leaving!" I whirled around, gathered my last suitcase, and proceeded downstairs. The car ride was 1 day and 23 minutes! I didn't think I could subsist that long with Chase. After piling in the truck, we departed at 12:00 PM. We didn't chat much, until we sped onto the highway. Then, my parents being them began to try to cheer up my 18-year-old brother Chase and I. He didn't mind the moving process as much. He had to start over anyway for college. But me, I was going to be, "That New Girl." The oblivious anti-social sophomore. I cringed at the thought. I never imagined we would move, or what it might be like to be a newbie.

After what felt like hours of messing with my phone and twiddling my thumbs, we pulled into a parking lot and screeched to a stop. I shot up from the gray leather chair. "We're there?" I asked, way too much enthusiasm in my voice. But before my family could reply, the twinkling, high-in-the-sky, lime green Marriot Hotels sign caught my eye. "Dang!" I spat, grabbing my leather snow white purse and tossing the golden strap over my shoulder. My parents and Chase followed me into the building, hauling the things we needed for the night. Yeah, it's obviously only "a few" essentials. Sure.

While my parents signed in and got our room, I admired the comfortable-looking, simple, and snazzy lobby. The walls were painted a deep crimson, with a thin golden stripe at the top and bottom. Two expensive-looking silver elevators stood motionless in one corner, and the hallway to the kitchen was on the opposite end. Scents of macaroni wafted from the dining area, and drool dribbled down my chin. I swiped it up, hoping no one noticed, and continued to scan the room. 2 seats and 1 lounge, all in black leather, circled an HD flat screen television. The carpet in the lobby was a golden brown with rough features, and a circular fuzzy red rug sat by the TV. Lastly, on the check in desk stood a stack of check in papers, still warm from the copier, and a cup of various pens and pencils. I guess my parents had the right hotel in mind.

After filling out the check in forum and chatting with the manager for what felt like hours, the four of us with our bags had to cram into the elevator, which shoved me up against the silver handle bar. I winced as it dug slightly into my back. It was a brief ride before the doors opened and we all scrambled out to find Room 126. It was at the end of the hall, and when we read the plate on the door, it was tough not to yip with relief. My dad unlocked it with the key and we all hustled inside to claim beds. There were two doubles and a fold out couch, which was perfect for our family. Chase took a double and my parents
hurriedly took the other, leaving me to the couch. I was so exhausted that I didn't put up a fight. Glancing in the mirror to see bags under my eyes proved my theory correct. I swiftly slipped into blue and gray plaid PJ pants and a spaghetti strap galaxy tank top. I was insanely worried. What would Mooresville be like? Would I make friend? Possibly a boyfriend for the future? I pondered on it for a bit, but shook the fears out of my brain. I was being ridiculous. After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I collapsed on the couch and let my head fall onto the fluffy white pillow, awaiting morning, the nerve-racking drive, and my new home.

The following morning, we were shaken awake at 6:45 AM. I groaned and reluctantly put on black leggings, a loose gray t-shirt, and navy blue Bear-Paw Boots. We ate a quick breakfast of delicious eggs, pancakes, waffles, bagels, oatmeal, cereal, bacon, and sausage before hitting the road at 8:00 AM. Yesterday we had pulled into the hotel at 2 in the morning, and we had driven for 14 hours. Only about 18 and a half hours left I thought with false enthusiasm. It was going to be a loooooooong day.
