*Amanda's POV*

"Hey."

His teeth glinted in the dim light as he gave me an adorable crooked grin.

"Hey," I answered, returning a smile.

"So, Amanda Powell, your order?" He asked me.

"Oh, don't you dare pay for me!" I firmly said. "It's nice, but I have plenty of cash."

Without responding, Jack strode up to the cashier. "Two hot chocolates, please."

I rolled my eyes, just giving in to letting him pay.

I grabbed a table for two by the window and sat down as Jack brought over our cups.

"Thanks, it was sweet for you to pay," I told him, taking the warm cup and swirling the cocoa with my straw.

"Of course," he answered, sipping his drink. "So how's being a sophomore?"

"Just as shitty as ever," I muttered.

"I can't believe this is actually my last year of school before college," he breathed, as I simply nodded.

"Do you know where you wanna go?" I questioned him.

Honestly, I don't want to go to college," he told me. I laughed. "Seriously?"

"I like Omaha! Don't kill me for it!" he slyly smiled.

"I can't wait until I graduate. Everyone likes me for my money here, so I don't know who the real friends are," I said plainly.

"Oh.... Sorry Powell," he quietly said, sipping his drink. "I think you're great anyway."

I smiled and blushed. "Thanks." Even though I had just met him yesterday, I imagined what it would be like to be in the presence of someone like that everyday.

We drank in silence for a while until we both finished and tossed out our cups.

"So what now?" He asked. "I should probably get home. Tons of homework," I said.

"Yeah, I'll walk you there," he said.

*Jack's POV*

"So," I said. "What kind of music do you like?"

"Hmm... Well, a couple of years ago my friend, Lauren, introduced me to Sleeping With Sirens, Bring Me The Horizon, and Black Veil Bride."

"Wow. So you like them?"

"Hell yeah! Last year we went to the Carolina Mayhem Fest, it was sick! I can't wait to go again this year!" She grinned at me.

It was cute how pumped she got when talking about her favorite bands. I found it interesting that she was into that type of music, but I didn't mind.

"But I also like some pop music. What about you?" She asked, snapping me out of my daydream.

"Yeah, I'm more into rap, hip-hop, and pop," I said. "They're easy to listen to, for me at least."

"Oh," she laughed.

"What?" I laughed back.

"I just find myself an odd person sometimes for liking heavy metal, or 'death music,' ya know?" She said, finger quoting 'death music.'

"Hey, you like what you like." I grinned.

"I guess so," she sighed.

After about 5 minutes of walking in silence, we found ourselves at her vast stretch of land, an enormous masterpiece of a house plopped in the center.

"Damn. When you said you were rich, you weren't kidding!" My mouth gaped at the endless land, kissed gently by the September sunlight.

Amanda didn't speak, and I knew she was upset.

"Sorry Powell. I like you for you, and may I die if that's not the truth."

She tucked a golden lock behind her ear, revealing the ocean blue eyes I found myself falling for. "Thanks. Same for you, Johnson."

I leaned in to softly plant a kiss on her cheek, but she jerked back. "I.... Uh.... Have a boyfriend!"

The words that came out of her adorable glossy lips pierced my heart like a thousand knives.

"Oh, sorry," I casually answered, a fake smile plastered on my now blushing face. I stuck my hands in the pockets of my shorts.

"I should head in for the homework," she spoke quietly, her voice quavering. "Thanks for walking with me."

"Yeah." My stupid reply was all I could manage to choke out before she turned on her heels and entered the house.

I continued to stand there and stare at her front door, biting my lip and with my hands deep in my pockets.

It was about five minutes before I started down the sidewalk, headed for my car in the shopping center parking lot.

*Amanda POV*

Boyfriend? I had never had a boyfriend in my lifetime! Of course I got offers from guys daily, but it was as if they were asking out my wallet, rather than Amanda Powell herself.

I just couldn't tell Jack the truth, about Nash and I, about how I was done with guys no matter how smart, sweet, and funny.

Now I realized I had just hurt him. A lot. I felt horrible.

I was burning up and my stomach felt queasy so I laid in bed with a cold rag on my forehead and my madly bedazzled phone in hand.

As I flipped through my apps, message notifications popped up, but I ignored them.

I eventually fell asleep, my cell still lodged in my sweaty palm.

*Haven POV*

Jason and I had exchanged numbers that afternoon, and had agreed to let each other know if anything happened.

I was excited for our date, but it felt strange with what was going on between Nash and I.

We weren't dating yet, but he liked me, and I liked him. I just wasn't ready to be in a relationship with Nash yet.

I mean, it was only one date with Jason. It wasn't like we were going to marry each other.

Just a date. Harmless, right?
